Default 350Z - TT similarities

there's a debate going on in one of the Audi forums I frequent. Most of the Audi members insist that Nissan took a bite from the Audi TT when styling the car. I Strongly disagree! comapre the Z32 with Z33.

curved roof lines, small triangular rear side windows, long hood, short rear... etc etc.... the new Z screams heritage from the previous Z... not a freakin TT!!!

opinions ?

The The TT is just a freaking semi circle. The Z definatly has the hatchback look. The TT is just...gay...

My opinion is that if anyone stole any styling form anyone, it has to be audi stealing that fugly squished beetle look. Just my .02

I see similarities in the roofline, beltline, and fender flares. However, for the most part the fastback profile shares cues from the 240Z and 300ZX. The TT is a simple shape that looks like a stretched circle body w/ a semi-circle roofline.

Michael.

Roofline on the Z is way more sloped. And the fender flare on the Z is a lot smoother than the TT.

To be fair to the TT people that think the Z looks like it, you have to paste a picture of the TT fastback model. The Z also has a little bit of a 911 in it.

The only thing I find similar is size of the backs of these two cars in very low light. I agree the Audi is ugly, and the Z is awesome.

I noticed today that the front of the Z is very similar to the front of the MR2.

surprised to hear such TT bashing- thought it was hot when it came out- haven't changed my opinion since- although there is a damn good reason why I'm driving a Z and not a TT. Don't see too many similarities though- maybe some fender flare action

there are definately similarities there. whether nissan stole any of the styling or not cant really be said unless you talk to the actual people that designed the car. imho the TT is kind of a girly car. a very very nice girly car but still girly. i dont see that in the z

Unfortunately, the most annoying comments I get from people is that the 350Z looks a bit like the Audi.

The TT is the same friggin body platform as the New Beetle. Nuff said.

The Z looks nothing like the TT. If anything resembles it's the roofline. So, since the 300zx come out before the TT maybe audi stole the roofline design from Nissan.

The TT is a stretched out BEETLE!!! Think I'm wrong? There's actual body kits for beetles to make them look like TT's. I've driven a turbo, and they are a nice car, but slow compared to the Z. The dinky 1.8 must go! Can't wait for 2005!

The Volkswagen Group owns Audi but Porsche is still on its own.

BTW, the 350Z looks much more aggressive than the TT. I have heard TT owners say that the 350Z looks like the TT but that's just coz they're envious that there is a better looking "real" sportscar out there...

Yeah I too thought the Audi looks like a beetle. When I first saw the TT I thought it was beetle at first glance. I think the 350Z looks more like the older Z's.

Guys... to the non-Z-fanatic the Z does look a lot like the TT.

Don't feel threatened... Many consider the TT to be an extremely well-done design.

I, for one, came very close to buying a TT... but chose the Z because the TT is more of a luxury-sport-coupe, whereas the Z more closely fits my true-sports-car desires.

But they do follow the same basic design theme overall...

This topic has been done to death going back to at least last April after the New York car show. If you compare front end to front end and rear end to rear end, there is NO comparison between these cars. Now if you look at the cars from the rear on the side looking forward, there is a fair amount of similarity in the roof line and to a lesser extent, the side panels. Nissan even admits that it looked at the TT and 911 and other cars in designing the Z, but then again no car is designed in a vacuum and I'm sure the when the TT was designed they looked at the 300ZX -- which is probably the basis for similarity in roof line. I wouldn't worry too much about what TT owners think, the TT was a fine car for its time, but ITS TIME HAS PASSED. Give the TT owners a break, they just can't DEAL with that.

Z roofline = wing-shaped (very clearly)

TT roofline = dome-shaped
