Default Good news and bad news...

Bad news is the other day I hit 2nd gear instead of 4th at redline in third, and lost to another Z while watching my tach bury itself. Good news is when I valet'd the car at the Paris (casino) , they parked me in front of the main entrance next to a Murcialago and Murcialago Roadster. Man, those cars make the Z look weak, but there were still people checkin it out. I have pictures on a disposable camera, any way I can post them easily? Also, if I have damaged the engine by hitting 10k+ rpms, would I already know, or could I have caused long term damage? Car runs fine as of present. Thanks for any input.

There's a chance that your engine may be fine (VQ35s are pretty rock solid!) but by going to such high RPMs you've definately at least weakened something, so even if there's no immediate damage, it wasn't at all good for the engine.

That said, the car's probably fine! Go and drive it and don't worry about it!

Unless you removed your REV limiter I doubt you hit 10k rpm's... so you should be fine..

Ouch, I think you should check it out. Money shifts can cause damage.

The rev limiter does absolutely nothing to prevent mechanical overrev (downshifting from 3rd gear @ redline to 2nd gear).

Yep, only limits acceleration revs.

Yeah, even though it was only for a split second, it still makes you sick. I'm just gonna hope for the best. I can't believe it went into 2nd so easy at that speed! Thanks for the input.
