Default Non-Brembo initial brake feel?

Is it just me or does there seem to be excess pedal travel before the brakes begin to grab? Past cars that I have owned seem to have a much firmer pedal and did not grab as much as the Z. The brakes are very powerful but it's taking a while to get used to the feel. I've had the car for 2 months and have 1300 miles. The technician at the dealership said this is normal. Everyone agree?

When I first bought my G35 sedan it took some getting use to also. I would almost put the family through the windshield. My coupe is the same way but I am use to it now and boy do they stop!!

For me, they feel perfect. Not much travel, and they stop me SO fast!

They were designed to be very linear. So if you push down 10% you get 10% of braking force. Some makes fake it by giving you say 40% of braking force with only 20% of push on the pedal. The Z is better suited to the track having linear brake force feel.

My standard brakes are not quite "right", but they work well enough that I don't really care. I notice that at first, the pedal can travel quite a ways before the brakes slow the car down, but if I pump the brakes a couple times they respond much quicker. I'm guessing there is a little air in the lines that is causing this, but I'm not going to have it looked at until I either have my pads replaced or swap out the brakes for an aftermarket kit.

If you think you have air in the lines, then you need to have Nissan bleed the lines for you. It is free, so what is holding you back?

I have the Brembos and noticed the travel and slight mushy feeling at first. They work great at higher speeds 50+ but require significant effort at lower speeds, especially below 30.

My maxima had the same problem when it came back from the dealer (after bleeding and new rotors and pads) for about four weeks. After that, the brakes became very impressive.

I'm waiting for the same thing to happen. Could be air, could be the combination of new pads and rotors.

My only worry is stopping too fast and having someone hit me from behind!

Mine bite immediately, don't need much travel, although I have yet to have to stop real hard.

Mine are very hard to modulate. Lots of travel and then they just BITE. Almost impossible to stop smoothly.

supposedly, they were designed to have a little "room to push the button", i noticed the little grace area where the brake is soft before it bites, but when it hits bite point, the car stops right then.
