Low 13 or High 12sec. Combo
I'm new here and to the whole import thing. I'v had a 2000 WS6 TransAm and several mustangs. What does it take to get the 350z to run low 13's or high 12's? I have a 03 Touring edition 6-speed. Only thing I'v done so far is tint the windows. I want to keep it a bolt on car. I'v read on here that pulleys seem to be a good mod. What about a cold air kit or exhaust?
Thanks for any help.

It is NOTHING like getting a Mustang to low 13s/high 12s. I'm a Mustang fan as well and know where you are coming from.
Check out alberto's thread though, he's in low 13's and will soon get into the 12's and doesn't have a whole lot of mods. https://my350z.com/forum/drag/117139-13-1-107-all-motor.html
I've got a few recommendations that you may want to know about if you want me to PM you a list.

If you can't afford FI... then forget about even getting into 12s, you'll never touch that number in NA motors without a budget that could make you afford FI. Not only that, after you've built your NA engine you'll wind up with 330 rwhp at most, while with the same money spent you probably could've gotten 500+ on a FI setup.

If you can't afford FI right now, then just save up, its worth it. I first started out NA and realized that I spent almost as much money on NA mods as an FI kit costs, and I only gained a fraction of the power that FI gives. I then stopped spending money on NA mods, and just saved up for FI for a while, and now I'm FI.
If you want to stay NA though, I'd say get pulleys, good tires, headers, test pipes, flywheel, exhaust, intake (doesn't really give u much power, but its cheap, so why not), ecu reflash, and may be a short shifter (its cheap and it should help you a little, but the stock shifter already has a pretty short throw...), and you gotta drive really good. That should get you to ur goal.

3.9 final drive ($1350 installed)
tilton flywheel ($1300 installed)
drag radials ($600)
For about 3 grand, you can get low 13's. I ran the above setup without the d.r.'s and got a 13.3. High 12's are possible with the same setup with slicks.

DR's, pop charger, exhaust, high flow cats, techno square ecu is the route I am starting off with.
I will be staying n/a.
I figure if I can run 13.6 stock, these mods should get me to a very low 13 at least, and maybe a high 12.
I could have run a 13.5 stock, if my traps were up where they normally were, but knock retard from the gas affected it a little.
A 106-107 mph trap should be enough to see high 12's with good traction.
I am keeping the car stock a little longer though, as I want to beat my best stock time, shooting for a 13.4-13.5.
The car seems to be getting stronger with higher miles, as I am at 19K now.

I'm actually agreeing with everyone, the list I put together enters Turbonetics ST and S/C prices at the cheapest. If you go with the most expensive parts you could have a GReddy kit with everything you need for it. Not to mention potential, you're not going to see 420+rwhp in N/A form on the 350Z.
