"Where the RX-8 needs to reach about 5000 rpm to get going, the Z puts the power down at 2000 rpm. However, once the Z reaches 4500 rpm, it tends to let down a bit, whereas the RX-8's rotary comes to life"

um....my Z doesnt let up at 4500 rpm.....in fact....it doesnt pull as hard until 4000 rpm to about 5500

i can't even call that a real test... the reviewer admitted to having no track to test slalom and skidpad numbers. He also guessed the performance of the RX-8 and put the Z and RX-8 in many ties... bad review IMO...

BTW--4000rpm+ is where my particular Z comes to life... it doesnt "let up"...

Road and track isn't even a real magazine, . The thing that I laughed at was how you "hit redline in nearly every gear before you realize it" in the RX8. I used to sell RX8's and I bought a Z because the power gain is so slow and there's no torque in the rotary. It's a decent looking car and it's practical and it's cool because it's unique but it's nowhere near the car the Z is in my opinion.

geez, sounds like you bought the wrong car, not too late you know. I heard trade in value is pretty good for a Z.

And why do they classify the Z as "mid engine/rear drive"?

B/c the engine sits above the front axle, or "slightly" behind, denoting it as the "midship" of the car.

cuz the engine sits above the front axle....so it's classified as a front midship, and it's rear wheel drive....the MR2 is known for it's rear midship engine, it atop the rear axle....
