Got my Z today.. did I get screwed ?
Finally the decision making's over. It's a sweet Daytona Blue Performance, which I'm in LOVE with, and will post pics when I get a digi-cam.
The one thing that really bites at me from the inside is the fact that I paid alot more for it than I thought..
Not in terms of sales price - I actually negotiated to UNDER msrp, but in the financing + GAP insurance + Gold Extended Warranty Package..
That package was $2,295 + $110 for the Gap insurance + $800 for the Gap Theft Coverage.
That's over $3,200 in extra fees that I didn't expect to pay at all. The finance guy convinced me, after heavy debating by me, that I should get the warranty since I can cancel it at point of sale/return/whatever for a refund that will cover the majority (over 60% of its cost), depending on car mileage and year it's canceled in.
I asked him, "What if I just get the GAP insurance without the Warranty?" He told me they come as a package, and GAP insurance alone will run me about $1500. Does this sound right to you guys ? Or did I get gouged ? Did I even need the GAP insurance to begin with here ? I feel kinda pissed that a car, which was supposed to cost me $33-34k at most - WITH TAX AND INTEREST - now cost me $37.5k over 36 months, with very LARGE monthly payments ($643) and a $15k down payment.
Argh.... LOVE the car though =(( I wonder if they screwed me with the gap insurance + warranty. They also gave me a shitty 7.7% loan rate, which was reduced to 6.7%. I think even that sucks. Anyone have some relevant experience or input ?

Congratulations, you just gave the finance manager a X-Mas bonus. Gap insurance on a lease car should be standard depending on the bank, its more of an insurance for the bank than yourself. As for an extended warranty, why? You have 3/36 warranty. Before your factory warranty is up, go purchase an extended warranty. This way you KNOW for sure you are keeping the car and by that time, the extended warranty would be probably cheaper.
Hate to rub it in but you seriously got *** raped. I suggest you go back to the finance manager ASAP and cancel that extended warranty and call up the bank and see if Gap was standard. If gap was already included, then contact a lawyer and get ALL of those stupid fee's refunded.
IMHO, he rapped you two ways.
1) extended warranty (Obsolete) for me, BMW just extended my warranty to 6 years 100k miles Free of charge, long story regarding the time bomb M3 motors.
The finance manager opt me to purchase an extended warranty when I signed my finance papers, but I said "Hell NO."
2) They rapped you on the GAP ****. Chances are gap is already included as standard with the bank. Therefore all those gap fee's he stole from your check book goes to his, not in so many words, but thats the bottom line.
Another thing they dont tell you about GAP insurance. Lets say your car was stolen or wrecked. You WILL have to be current with your payment in order for GAP to take effect. What does that mean for you? Simple, if your car is stolen for two months you WILL have to be making payments on a car that you dont have in order for you to utilize GAP if your car ends up getting salvage. God forbid those who buy cars with SUPER depreciation and it ends up getting stolen and they missed 1 month payment. Insurance "Sorry we are only go give you 32k for your car," Bank, "Sorry but you owe 38k for your car."
Yup, one month of 500-600 car payment just costed you 6k
Best wishes and good luck! Go get em!
If it makes you feel any better, I got *** RAPED when I bought my car. I paid over MSRP + gave my salesman 800 dollars

Jeezus am I pissed off.... I got raped for over $3,300 here for ********.
The gap was included for a measly $110.00 price in case the car gets totalled, BUT he charged me an additional $800.00 for Theft Protection. I just found out online I can get both of those for like $289.00 for lifetime.
Holy ****ing christ... I'm so upset I could kill someone, heh. Tomorrow I have to go down there and drop off the remaining $10,000 check.
This "finance manager" told me that Gap Insurance without the extended warranty package would cost around $1,700. That's utter ********, he lied to me. I'm going to take it up with whoever the highest authority is at that place...
I'm quite disgusted, frankly.

Slay, I'm sorry but they saw you coming. They made you feel/believe you you were getting a discount by reducing the price of the car. But they tacked on the difference, and then some, to the financing, warranty, insurance, etc.. In effect you paid about $2000 over the MSRP.
I hope others will learn from your experience.
Good luck with your new car.

Another thing,
Some states allow you to return a car for a full refund within a certain amount of time (like 1 week or so). I know my state (CA) does not have this because when I bought a Dodge Dakota in May and when I took delivery of the Z in Sept, both dealers went to great lengths to point this out (that once I signed the papers I couldn't take it back - they called it a "cold feet" clause).
Maybe your state has that feature?

BTW, DO NOT baby your car for the breakin. Warm it up in the mornings before driving it and then drive it like you want it to perform. Train it while it's young.
Quoted from Office of New York State Attorney General's Website (http://www.oag.state.ny.us/consumer/...ar_buying.html):
A copy of the terms and conditions of the service contract must be provided by the dealership. You are entitled to a full refund, less any claims paid, within twenty days of the mailing of the service contract or within ten days if the contract is delivered at the time of sale.
*Breathing a sigh of relief...*
Ahh... I feel better already. Since the gap insurance is included with the service contract, that should be a total of over $3,300 in terms of a refund.
Let's see what happens tomorrow.
And sdpearso - I've been driving it at a "comfortable" level, not exceeding 4,500 RPMs so far. I figure once I hit about 300-400 miles, I'll break 5,500 =)
Thanks to everyone for your support. Thanks "D'oh" for making me research the New York State law on this. I love you, man. =[

P.S - I'm about to give it my first carwash tomorrow !! I'm going to go with Meguiars for the ingredients... but what kinda "mitt" and towel should I get ? Or should I get a mitt at all ? A terry-cloth or 100% cotton towel ?

You can never, ever believe one word of what ANY employee of a car dealer tells you.
On financing stuff check with a local bank to at least see what its terms/rate are before going to the dealer.

go back and tell them you don't want that crap. They should let you back out and give you your money back. If you wanted to you could walk away from the entire deal.
I bought an extended waranty for my S2000 (even though I tell everyone it's a rip off) because I thought I was getting it for a good price. But I came to my sences and returned it within 60 days for a $50 fee. Still waiting for my check.

FWIW, I was pitched all of that at $2500
I told them, the only thing I might be interested in was the warranty, but I wasn't going to pay that. I told them it was worth $800 to me for the 5yr/100k mile extended warranty and the only way I would get it was for that.....I paid $862 for it, again with some hesitation on his part.
Glad you are getting it worked out.....

Gosh.... i forget the mitts that don't scratch. =\ For the towel go for a big blue microfiber towel. I need to go order one myself. Otherwise the cotton towel will be nice but lint like nothing else.
If you have the opportunity go for some different wax.
It's too bad those dealers wasted you-- get your $$ back-- who needs an extended warranty anyway??? treat your car right, change the oil and be smart-- your car will last a real good while ( I have 121K on a 97 Venge and still going great!)
Plus-- after the warranty runs out you can mod the hell out of the car and not worry about voiding anything!!!
PS-- so are you finally content with your decision and purchase?? Is the car worth all of the thinking and rethinking that you were doing for the past few weeks?
ZZ

So I called them up yesterday morning and told the salesman and manager I was pissed off. They told me to come in and that a Finance Director would talk to me and take care of it.
I drove down and spoke to the Finance Director guy. He seemed sincere and wanted to work things out. He told me he can take the warranty off without a problem, and the gap insurance, but not the theft-replacement insurance due to the sketching done on my windows.
That insurance is $795 for 5 years... which gives me $5,000 in the case that my car is stolen and not recovered. Everyone apparently gets these (he showed me a log of purchases), and so I don't think this is harmful at all..
So my price went down by $2,400 and I feel relieved =)
Now all I have to do is wait for my title and re-finance their god awful 7.7% interest rate.
BTW - Yes, I'm tremendously happy with my car and my decision =) I washed and waxed it yesterday, and am as proud of an owner as can possibly be =D
Thanks everyone for your input, as always.
