Red face Bashing the Z in JD Power?

I just got in the mail today my JD Power survey for the Z. First time selected after buying a few cars in my life. I have the CS Enth 6MT. Ordered in January and received in August. Fun fact for you. They include a fresh $1.00 greenback for your time.

For those not in the know the survey is broken into 4 parts and here is how I rated the Z:

"Things Gone Wrong"

1. Grease Streak on Windows
2. Poor Lumbar Support
3. Seat Squeaks or Rattles
4. Instrument panel rattle

No place to mark how obsessive I have become over cleaning the car or where I park it. No place to mark the sudden urge to floor the gas and watch cars in my rear view get smaller. No place to mark how I suddenly feel the need to join a web site and dream of racing at Texas Motor Speedway

Overall not bad. These questions were fill in the bubble type from my old SAT days.

"What do you like"

1. Um everything except the things that have gone wrong and..

Sh#@%y speakers

Poor long distance comfort (I am 6'2" tall and need the seat to be a little longer to give my lower quads support)

"Specific Features"

Won't delve to far in but here are a few items I marked

1. MP3 playback capability
2. Daytime running lights

For all you MOD nuts, there wasn't a space for TT or Supercharger

Overall, I rated the Z a 10. That's my survey and I am sticking to it

Not to doubt but is this true. I have the Xenon on my Enthusiast and I get a buzzer (?) when I turn off the car and open the door. The lights do not go off on mine although I have not closed the door behind me and locked the door. Am i wrong?

they turn off automatically on the touring, that sucks, I wish they did on mine. I love that option on my other cars.

yes, the auto off headlights are only on the TOuring i believe, open you little booklets that list ALL the options for the cars, and it says it in there!

I get a little tone when i pull the key and open the door, but after about 35 seconds the lights go off.

I use my parking lights as DRLs sometimes. It's a nice look I think.

Don't you find it funny that they can take the time to wire a buzzer to go off if you leave your lights on, but they can't just wire the damnable lights to turn off?

You're kidding! I didn't know that. I have a Touring, and the buzzer goes off when I take out the key with the lights on. Is there a timer, a delay before the lights turn off? I'll have to check out the owner's manual now!

I have the auto-lights-off feature on my Subaru, and I love it.

YES, I guarantee if you have the touring they ARE on a timer and will shut off. I havent turned my headlights off in 2 weeks i would think the battery would be dead by now, lol JK

It takes about 30-40 seconds, but they WILL go off

Yeah, my Z is the first thing I've been compulsive enough about to join a web group, so I know what you mean.

And I've been having dreams, but not the good kind: 1) my first night after getting it, I dreamed that my husband was driving her and revved her up to 6 and I nearly had a heart attack. 2) last night, I dreamed that I let my friend drive it and he didn't angle it over a bump in the road and we scraped the front. And then when we arrived at our destination, I turned around and looked at my Z and it had 4 flat tires. !! And then the whole car turned into an inflatable car and the air leaked out until I was left with a deflated Z. !!!!

I think I am a really sick, disturbed person. I'm surprised my husband hasn't really started resenting this terrible Z obsession yet.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Just finished filing my out as well. Overall, a 10. The only thing that I marked low was the rear/side visibility. BTW, it was a nice, new crisp $1. Don't they realize they don't have to pay us to talk about our cars?! Thanks anyway, McD's appreciated it!

Why don't JD just come to this website and save a few bucks, then they could use 10-10-220 (sorry for the bad joke)

I'm sure you can add DRLs to any car, I'm just not sure how Nissan does it with the Z. Since the Z is sold in Canada, where it is required, I'd bet it is a pretty easy mod. It may be as easy as adding a relay. I think I asked before, and the Z uses the high beams at a lower voltage.

If not, there are plenty of aftermarket kits for it.

DRLs are great on Motorcycles as it made them visable. They are great in Canada as the sun is so low in the sky. GM gets pizzed because canada makes a law requiring DRLs on cars and instead of having a US and Canadian verisons of the same car they put DRLs on all US models. Motorcycles now become invisable again. Not to mention in the lower half of the US the sun is high enough in the sky to not need DLRs. Why can't the auto manufacturers do something constructive such as have the DRLs come on when the windshield wipers are turned on? In most states it is a law but few drivers do it in light rain where high visability is needed.

Actually, I live in the southern part of the country, and I still think DRLs help me see other cars. I ESPECIALLY think it helps on other dark or neutral colored cars that blend into their surroundings. It is also nice in those early mornings/late afternoons times of the day when people don't turn their lights on, but the light isn't that great. It is just one added thing that might help somebody see you when they aren't directly paying attention to your area of the road.

I don't buy the "can't see motorcycles" argument at all. They still have a light. The reason motorcycles aren't seen is because they are small. Not whether or not they have the same lights as cars. Their lights help, too, and aren't diminished by cars having their lights on.
