Default What is the recommended Break-in mileage period ?

1. What is the recommended break-in mileage period for a new z or any
vehicle for that matter ?
2. What is the recommended speed limit, until the break-in period is over?
3. Is it wise to drive the z long distance while still within the break-in period ?

Any helpful advice would be much apprciated. Thanks...

I always keep it under 4,000 rpm for the first 1,000 miles. If you do long distances, vary the rpm. Do not stay in the same gear for more than 30 mins. There really isnt a speed limit during the break in period, its mainly an rpm limit. Have fun!

i though it was 1200 miles of the top of my head, but i'm sure it isnt crucial.

"Do not stay in the same gear for more than 30 mins." Sureley if you did, you've bought the wrong car

it's 1200 miles...at least that's what the dealer told me...i just set the shift alert light to 4000 rpm and it was no big deal...the 1200 went by decently quick

i figure it's good to play it safe and do what they say...1200 miles isn't that far, and you don't want to screw up your Z

yep, its in the manual. it states not to go over 4K rpm for 1200 miles. also states not to stay at the same rpm for too long. i have 1600 miles on my '06, and planning on breaking it in until the 2000 miles mark, just for safe measure.

What about ppl that test drive Z's and go over 4k..someone ends up buying it and they do a break in..even though someone's kinda ruined it a little. I dont know how much damage can be done with a car test driven 5-6 times though..

Yes, the manual says 2000 Km = 1200 miles. Many different opinions about the subject. Dozens of topics in this forum.

Good searching...

i also heard there is no break in period for the Z from a worker at the dealer. something about the computer adapting to your hard driving. i believe him because hes got a Z of his own.

I wouldnt believe anyone other then what your conscious thinks. These workers are going by their experience. Just do what the manual says and you should be happy. I didnt buy the car i test drove, and i red-lined the hell out of the car...The salesman sh*t in his pants...lol
