They took my car out for lunch too because I've got mud on my passenger's side floormat and my shift light was moved up to 6600 rpm!

At any rate, the transmission is shifting way WAAAY smoother than it was when I took delivery of it. No clunkiness at all. FINALLY! So for all those out there that are having poor shifting, I'd say bring it in, complain that the throwout bearing is making noise and enjoy that Z transmission you paid good money for.

no more Shift_grinding!
Was this covered under the warranty?

Sessions, thanks for that info. It makes me feel a bit better but I'm still not entirely happy with that dealership since I'm the only one that knows how to treat my baby right. haha

By the way, how was the stereo install? I've just started to research audio components and I'm not looking forward to tearing the dash/console apart. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Would you please describe the noise a faulty throwout bearing makes so I know when to bring it back to Nissan? Thanks!

Sure, when the clutch is not engaged you will hear a slight rattle with a little sing to it.....once you put the clutch in it goes away because the bearing is depressed against the pressure plate....

Thanks! I'll take a listen tonight so I have a noise reference to compare to in the future...
If it weren't for this damn rain, I'd fire her up now.

Happy motoring!

im a little late to this convo :[

i got 8000mi on my 06, im not experiencing the same clutch issue this thread was started for (although in its early miles the clutch used to chatter loud at idle disengaged).

MY CLUTCH STUCK TO THE FLOOR THIS MORNING! TALK ABOUT PROBLEMS!

i say a post on this forum about my query... but i cannot find. the answer i THINK i saw to that was there are air bubbles in my clutch line, and i just gotta bleed it.

in my civic when my clutch slipped the pedal would still come back...

p.s- also smelled MAD burnt clutch.

If you don't think your car makes the sound, listen for it with the windows down while parked next to a wall or at a light alongside a highway divider. They'll bounce the sound back into the cabin better.

As for it being an issue of the car just being cold, I don't think it matters. I'm pretty sure it makes the sound regardless.

Oh, and my 1-2 shift seems to grind a bit 98% of the time. Always goes in, but almost always feels a bit 'scratchy', so much so in fact that when it shifts perfectly smooth, I actually notice it. Could be the syncros, not sure. Concerns me a bit considering there's only 1200 miles on the car. I'll give it another couple of thousand and see if it smooths itself out before I think about bringing it in.
your right... my buddy's 02 WRX had the clutch replaced several times under warranty to no avail and i've driven a M3 with an annoying throwout bearing noise. My 00 jetta grinds everytime from 1st to 2nd gear. Fortunately, my original 03 tranny shifts like a champ, just a little notchy from 1st to 2nd in the morning sometimes and it doesn't even make that famous cement mixer noise in idle any more.

Default more noises

The sun finally came out so I was cruising uphill next to the center divider and just as I approach 4k rpms i hear a high pitch singing. Sounds similar to brake squeal. Bearing noise already?

Default false alarm

My bad. Upon further inspection, the noise seems to be coming from my intake. I've got a jwt pop charger and giving the throttle quick stabs in the 3-4k range causes a whistle. I'm guessing it's the airflow over the MAF sensor or something. I'll rotate the filter although I doubt it'll make a difference.

I'm getting a slight rattle now too. When sitting in neutral with the clutch out, there is a sound similar to a loose heat shield or something like that. But, once I press the clutch in, the sound goes away. Is this what you were all experiencing?

That seems to be what others have described. I've yet to actually hear my bearing make noise. But it was inspected and replaced by the dealer.

5200 miles on my Z.....It still motivates forward and backwards and starts for me every morning for my daily drive. If I hear any noises I just roll down my windows and listen to the noises of other peoples cars while I'm stuck in traffic, it makes me feel better...
Every night when I go to bed, my wife turns on a fan to drown out all the noises so she can sleep better, I just take out my hearing aid...
Sometimes people make strange noises....I think they need service...

[QUOTE=d $]Got my Z back yesterday. The dealer replaced my clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and flywheel.

Your description of the problem that you had matches the exact finding that is going on with my 2005 enthusiast. I have 7800 miles and brought it in yesterday and all they did was readjust a rev limiter. problem was not solved. Threads on other forums also have indicated that replacing the clutch disc and flywheel will solve the problem. Was your repair covered by warantee?

elidoc,

I brought it in for the poor cold shifting but upon inspection, the dealer told me that they were hearing a bearing noise from the throw-out bearing so I approved the removal of my tranny for a closer look. The replacement of the friction disc, pressure plate, flywheel, and throwout bearing were covered under warranty... not sure what was actually replaced or not since it's all internal but that's another matter.

When I got it back, it was shifting better but I'm not sure it was what they were trying to accomplish. Temperatures had also risen so ask me again next winter if I've still got crappy transmission feel between 1st and 2nd.

Good luck with your Z.
