They should definately twin turbo the vehicle. They did with the 300's, why not the 350?
It should be putting out at least 510 to the crank, advertized HP. Nissan should try to stay in competition with the rest of the muscle/sport cars.
If you have a brand new Z and a Saturn walks on you, aren't you pissed? We spent anywhere from 28-40K on the damn thing, it should outrun all the 20K something vehicles.
We tell ourselves that it's all about looks. But, if zippy the pizza guy in a Focus smokes you, how good does that look? We have tire probs, greasy windows, rattling, tranny probs, an ECU that negates everything we do to up the HP, blah blah blah. Show us the HP damnit!!!!!!
Vehicles are now being built with alot of power, the Z is a sport car and should try to be competitive. Looks alone won't keep the Z afloat. If in 07/08 everything is FI and the Z is still putting around at 300 HP and everything from a Focus to a Kia is walking on it, it's going to get old quick.

i just want to know if Nissan is going to have a single turbo or twin turbo edition for the 350z like the 300z did during the mid 90's.

There's still room for more efficiency (HP) out of the normally aspirated 3.5. Hell, the RSX - S is over the 1:1 ratio @ 201HP out of a 2.0.

3. weight 3000lbs via lighter weight materials.. more aluminum use on body panels/chassis for example...also aluminum exhuast

4. lightly restyled exterior

5. completely restyled interior

6. improved handling via more rigid/lightweight chassis

7. improved aerodynamics to make 170mph doable w/ 325hp and 150mph much more stable.

8. better nvh. not that expensive and should be possible to do a good job and still get to 3k lbs

Base model would be $29,999.. max price wouldn't exceed $35,999.
This car is designed to be the affordable sports car, and nothing more. I think that this would best fit those needs and still give the z a very competitive edge in the marketplace

If I was to design the 350 I would trhow in:

-W16 with 4 twin turbos
-Make it 800 lbs lighter
-Add composite ceramic brakes and clutch.
-Add Lightest wheels on earth
-Re-design the exterior a little bit (just enough to make it look like a bullet and make it stable at mach 3)
-Interior: throw in there everything a BMW 750 has plus game console and dolby DTS 7.1 surround sound

All this, and I would still leave it affordable, base (no sourround sound) starting a $29,999.99

After all, this car is supposed to be an affordable sports car, so I would leave it in the same price range!!

Actually, there is some truth to this. However, leave all 350Z models as is. Then build the TRACK model as listed above. Sell it for $45K, less the game console. Because you'll never need that on the track.

But I think that someone already took my idea and car specs and put it to production. It's called Bugatti Veyron , but the price I think is a little higher than 45K That's not an "affordable" sports car anymore

Understand your point. However, would it be nice to have a TT Track version for around 45K or so. That was what I was going for.

For the amount of weight you could lose, it won't affect performance that much... MAYBE another .2-.3 seconds off your 1/4. Then your looking at average 1/4 times of around 13.5-13.6. Couple that with HP gains, ok.

Everyone *****es about the weight of the car. Its really not that bad. Everyone wants to see it around 2800-2900, but thats like the new Civic territory. Civics are nice, but nowhere near as solid as the Z. Personally I have no qualms with the weight. It's pretty easy to drop some weight off of it as it is.

If the Z were a super car, it would need to shed about 100 lbs (from base model weight) and have 350 hp. 100hp/L is bragging rights.

Not b1tching about the weight, just seeing it getting heavier and heavier without no real HP to compensate.

The Z is not just about straight line speed. Why do people have a hard time with this concept? If you want something faster, buy something faster. I guarantee you won't find a better COMBINATION of looks, speed, handling, fuel economy and reliability at the price of the 350Z. Yes a Jeep SRT-8 is faster, but which vehicle will be more fun to drive on a nice back country road? The Jeep will probably also be lucky to get 12mpg in all reality. Throughout automotive history, there have been big cars and trucks with big motors that have been faster in the straight line than real sports cars. Speed is only one component of the sports car experience.

True, but the Z has to move in a certain direction to stay competitive in the market, for brand/ product sake. I guess that's what everyone, or the original post maker (Zland) intended this debate to be.

Like you, I'm happy with where it is right now. Honestly I don't care much how the rest of the market is gaining, since I like to modify my cars anyway. However, I am curious as to what Nissan has to offer.

There are rumors of a factory TT coming... But they say Nissan(Z) will not be allowed to undercut Infiniti(GTR) on the price. So say 70K at least....???

my dream would be 3000lb curb weight. and 350 hp and they could call it the track modle. leave the base as affordable as possible, basicly not changing it. then have some sort of nismo turbo option, and aero package for speeds of 170, because you know we all go that fast. thats my dream but ill take it as it comes.
