Default New Clutch...

Hey,

I have a 2004 350z, a month ago the car died on me and they dealership said it was the variable valve timer.... That shot some debri into my engine, screwing it up. So they had to replace my engine. Under warranty lucky...

Now that the engine is out, they are ssaying I need a new clutch. I dont drive my car too hard, I dont race it or anything... I'm thinking it is kind of early to need a new clutch....

Anyways, they want $1400 to replace it including flywheel, and all that other crap (using genuine nissan parts)...

Meineke is wanting $795 (using aftermarket parts), spinning flywheel, not a new one.

dealership is saying not to use aftermaket parts, meineke is saying that factory parts are more expensive and dont last as long...

I am thinking meinke is the way to go...

I need to make the decision soon , because as soon as the engine isin, i would have to pay $1400+800 if i choose the dealership option.

Any quick input would be REALLY appreciated! thanks

Order the JWT combo and have Nissan install it. Just get an estimate for the labor first and then tell them that you will provide the clutch bc they will most likely overcharge you for the part...might as well get something better instead. Labor for clutch should only be around 350-450

I'd feel weird giving my car to Meineke for doing the install of the tranny

+1 on JWT combo. But if they are replacing your motor, then your tranny will be down. So if you get them the parts on time, labor should be free, because the tranny will already be out of the car.

Well i think i might go dealership... one question tho... Hold off and do it later ($2400)... do it not ($1400)... or spin the flywheel instead of replacing it ($500)

If they won't put in parts you supply, they are full of **** and trying to rip you off. Just say no thanks and keep what you got; it's probably fine.

Sounds like the dealership is trying to rip you off. As was stated by someone in a previous reply, since the engine has to be removed, labor charges to replace the clutch/pressure plate should be minimal, if anything. If your clutch felt fine before your engine blew up, more than likely there's nothing wrong with the flywheel. Depending on how many miles you have on your car, it may be a good idea to install a new clutch/pressure plate not that the motor is out.

+1 Call NNA and complain. Also let the service manager know that its BS. Dont let them tell you "sorry we can only out in original parts during warranty work" thats straight up BS.

why would they charge you anything to install all the parts if the tranny is out aswell as the motor. That is ridiculous and i would definately write a letter describing how your being treated.

Every clutch will have blueing and some hot spots. I pulled my stock clutch otu at 53K HARD miles and it had hot spots but still never 1X slipped on me, even after powershifts and 6000rpm clutch drops on slicks. They are trying to sell you $hit you dont even need, I hate dealers...

+1 The dealer is trying to screw you. I brought in an aftermarket race clutch and they had no problem installing it when I got my new transmission installed. They are F.U.C.K.E.R.S !!!! Report them to Nissan North America. Don't get the clutch installed by them on principle alone. I'm sure you don't even need a clutch.
