Default Leather cracking n Worn down is this under warrenty??

Just wanted to see if I should try, if I can get my Seats Replace because of leather worn down and cracking. I have Extended warrenty on my 03 PPW Touring with 25K on it. I just want to see if the seats are under warrenty, because my driver side seat is kinda worn down and some minor crackin on the leather. Just want to know is it worth trying talkin to the dealer and get new seats from the dealer or not. I thought I should ask here before i try the dealer.thanks in advance

i've heard some dealers would replace those prematurely worn out cloth seats..........but i don't know about the leather seats. i got aftermarket perforated leather seats on mine and the quality is ten times better than the oem leather.

probably not. my 03 seats have some cracking too. I just keep putting leather conditioner. It seems to maintain them pretty well.

That's a tough one.
Manufacturing defect - yes.
Normal wear and tear - no.

GM replaced the leather seat covers in '97 and up C5's because of excessive wear on the side bolsters. You may have to fight with your dealer since I'm sure they will tell you that the damage is "fair wear and tear" and not covered.

this is the main reason I really wanted cloth seats this time around, i hated my last car when the leather started cracking.

Dealer replaced my burnt orange leather under warranty because it was wearing on the seat bolsters. I noticed other Zs with wearing out leather...two of them were on the dealers lot so I told them it is premature/defective and they replaced it.

You're absolutely right on both counts. It only makes sense that your left bolster is wearing prematurely, since that's the one that your backside is always rubbing against when you slide yourself in and out of the seat. There's a TSB in place for premature wear on the cloth seats (I had it done myself), but when it comes to the leather seats, you may have to do some haggling.

Yes, the bolster is where the seat sticks out on the sides to hold you in when you're in turns. Mine also was wearing on the left side and was replaced under warranty. There's no way the leather should be wearing out on a 2 year old car. This is what I told them. 2 of the used Zs they had on the lot also had this wearing and I pointed that out to the service manager. They reupholstered my drivers seat.

I went round and round with the dealer on this. I have the Burnt orange seats with cracking on the bolster. I reported it in 2005 with 15k on the odo. 2003 model year car. Even argued with the regional manager. Not happening.

is it possible to touch up the coloring on the edges of the bolsters? I only 6k miles on my ride, and the color is already rubbing off of that part.

(and I do every contortion possible to keep from rubbing against it)

yeah thats the best thing to do. Instead of sliding in and rubbing against the bolster, i sit in the seat without rubbing the side then swing my legs in after...

Also if you wear a lot of jeans, or heavy material it will wear the seat quicker than slacks ect. I were a lot of jeans and on of the little rivets on the back poket was bent a little and scratched the hell out of my leather
