Default shift

Yo, do any of you all have an problems shifting from 1st to second. Is it a little rough, feels like it kind of hits something, it doenst go in smooth? I had this issue in my Z for quite sometime. I was pulling the shifter straight back from first and 2 out of 5 times it would go in smooth. I found out however, that if you pull it back with a little more angle, somewhat towards 4th, it goes in smooth everytime. I dont know if this is just an issue with the Z, it is my first manual car but I thought I would share and maybe help smooth shifts.

The Z's tranny is notchy as hell. I have that same feeling that you feel like the shifter hits something and gets stuck for a split second, ESPECIALLY when the car is still cold. Its notchy in pretty much every gear, but 1-2 is horrible. If it gets worse or starts grinding take it to the dealer. What year and how many miles?

I have an 03' with about 15K aren. I agree, when its cold it is much worse, but try what I said, it should help out tremendously. Davidv, if you spent the time to read my post, you would see that this is not a complaint thread, I posted this to help others who have this problem.

maybe when you pull it at an angle you might have kept your foot on the clutch and easing it out a little slower, which matches your rpm slowly, and thus don't feel the jerk...try giving it a little gas when you are releasing your clutch, pedal up and pedal down together to match rpm...

the Z is a high performance car, it's very twitchy....try getting into a porsche 911 Turbo or a GT3, if you think the Z is twitchy, the Porsches will make the Z look like a baby....

yeah, it seemed to help mine a lot. I however do rev-match on every gear so that isnt the problem. Like joeasian said, its a sports car, not a cadillac.

Its a notchy transmission, no doubt about it. Its not that difficult to shift though... I have no problem throwing it into different gears.

Maybe you need to hit the gym for a bit.

The lack of a smooth 1st to 2nd shift has been commented about since the first Z33 came out.

The 1st to 2nd shift is not smooth. It seems like it rolls around a "lump" .. and has been experienced by many owners - including me .. with a 2003 Z.

I used to sometimes have difficuly with shifts from 1st to 2nd under heavy throttle application. After I switched to a B&M shifter, the shift from 1st to 2nd gear seemed to be much easier. But it was harder to find the right spot going from 4th to 5th in a hurry, so it was a trade off.

yea I herd that most of the time when you upgrade to those short throw shifters it makes it worse. I think that happens to the best of us Zincognito
