Whoa, are you high on the 'NOS' fumes?? Even with AWD the Z will be on par with those two. Both the EVO and STI are turbo charged, lighter and the EVO has a quicker 0-60 (.5s) time than the Z. It would be a close race, but the Z will not smoke them.

BUT, the Z beat them both in the Looks department.

why does motor trend and road and track say the 0-60 time is 5.8 seconds for the Z but significantly less for the Rx-8 and other cars? Is it really slower?

smoke them both... god I hate to do this, but... 300hp 300ftlbs? less weight? remove traction advantage and its a very close race. I think the Z is right matched from a roll, but its not gonna be SMOKING anyone. now in terms of intangable design features, the Z is a 2 seater, I think it has a better design for racing, better weight distrobution, a V6 that still has potential out the wazoo, while the others are already running 20lbs of boost to match it.

but this is not a Z vs awd cars thread.

Im still amazed someone thought I was driving a miata...

then I asked if it was a chick car, she said sure, shed drive it.

uhhh what? there are no quoted times for the RX8 other than an estimate of 6.0. as for the Z it can do 5.5, probably without beating it, youd get 5.8 I suppose. be sure to compare apples to apples. so what cars is it slower than? you said "other cars".

oh and I just looked, my road and track says 5.6. if you have wrong numbers you can get some weird conclusions. the Z is faster than a mclaren too, it says it does 0-60 in 8 seconds. whoops no it doesnt.

i was referring to the david vs. goliath comparison where the Z was 5.8seconds. I just wish Nissan would come out w/ a Turbo version b/c it is a much better automobile than many cars, but the Subaru WRX and Mitsu and the rest have lower 0-60 times. I understand that there is much more than just time to 60 but it would be nice if Nissan differentiated itself from the G35 a little more with better performance. The Z will increase in price each year just like the 300ZX did but hopefully the increase will come with better performance at least.

edit...
i thought the rx-8 was 5.0sec but was wrong, my mistake but don't get SO defensive ares, its just numbers geez...

Back to my original statement, the only reason those cars beat the Z in straight line performance is because of AWD. Take AWD off the Evo, and that 4.8 second 0-60 quickly becomes 5.8, and that 12.9 1/4 mile takes a plunge too. And neither of those cars is significantly lighter than the base Z. The evo is almost 3100 lbs, and the Sti is also around 3100 lbs I believe. Perhaps saying the Z would smoke them was a bit of an stretch. But I'd be willing to bet the Z would beat the Evo, but would probably be neck and neck with the STi.

Alright, no more off topic posts, sorry.

That's funny, I've only gotten long stares and from the few who ask, they've always said in a dreamy, envious tone "Is that the new Z?"

I say, yup. =)

They say, ooh coooool. Looks awesome.

And then I say, thanks, with a big stupid grin on my face. =)

Yeah, the Z definitely looks like an SC430, especially if you see the back of one from behind. I've had a lot of people to tell me that it looks like a Porsche, too.

can someone post pics comparing them on this board? i think the lexus is ugly imo it looks like a snail or something that lost its shell. i like the Z a lot, i just wish it looked more expensive and wasn't being compared to the celica and cars like that. i just don't like how some people put it in the category of a ricer kinda car when the 300zx and 350z aren't really in that category. i liked when the old Z was thought of as an engineering sports car luxury touring coupe kinda car and don't like when everyone thinks of it as a cheap ricer that would look phizaattt with neon under it, etc. haha. oh well. nissan should distance themselves from those stereotypes by offering twin turbos yay!

Can someone explain how the Z looks like the Celica. I just don't see it at all. I don't see how it's even remotely close except for both of them having four wheels, two doors, and windows. The roofline possibly? Maybe I'm blind.

well are you ready for this explanation? haha first of all, some people can't differentiate b/c minivans and suv's and sports cars but...

- most celica's and Z's are the same chrome silver color
- the celica's have long triangular front lights and the Z has a long headlight as well
- both are coupes
- both are japanese designs
- both have a raking line from front to back
- a lot of Z's are starting to get wings/spoilers on them that look like the celica's wing

that's about it. i know they aren't alike but a lot of people just compare the two. that's why nissan should up the Z's performance or offer a special edition or something package or factory tt's so that it distances itself from the ricer class and heads towards the luxo-sports cars that haul *** and have high torque but then again there's more money in the mainstream. i liked the Z. at first i didn't and thought it was a cheap japanese car that was trying to capitalize on the 300zx's rep but i actually like it now if only it had a little more oomph, better tires, and better options/interior packages.

I agree 100% that factory TT's would've been great, but then there's the argument that they were trying to keep it "affordable", but they should've let us decide.

who are you hanging out with, The Z doesnt compare to the Celica in ANY way.

"up the performance"???? the Z already has 107 MORE HP than the celica and MORE than 2x the torque, HARDLY the same class!!!!

ahhh i'm not saying they are the same i'm just saying some people (not me) mistake them as the same just as some people mistake it as the lexus and some people mistake jeeps for ford explorers, etc.

I am the same way with tail lights and most other unique features to a car, my wife will see a car go by in the dark and ask what kind of car it is (as it has already gone by) and I only get a view of the tailights, yet I can name the car (even cars I don't care about), I guess it is all the car mags I read??

I wish I could have gotten thru college that easy

No doubt. I can usually guess a car coming up behind me from the headlights too. I love it!

I don’t really want to get into this discussion but the one that I would like to point out is that ‘incredable’ is really spelt incredible. I don’t mean this by any means an attack on Ares, it was just bugging me.

On the issue of the SC430 vs. the Z: The Z is obviously the sports car of the two. I believe the Z would take it in a straight line but from what I’ve seen it would be close. A good driver in the Z would go a long way. As for a road course or an autox, I believe we all can agree that the Z would eat the SC430. As far as luxury, comfort, convenience, the SC is a pretty obvious winner. Value is a tough call depending on how much you like to spend on your car. For the average person the Z is definite value king, but if you have the money, might as well enjoy it.
