I recently got my 5 day old 2005 Tiburon SE V6 rear ended... Sooo, I have cash for a new car.

I can get a 2004 Z with 25-30K miles for 21 grand, the same price as a brand new Tib SE.

The obvious trade-off is looks/power/brand/RWD with the Z vs.
badass warranty/no hassles (new car)/back seat/mpg with the Tib...

What do you guys think?

Lol everyone over at the tiburon forums is saying Z all the way.

But honestly, the used car worry is a big thing to me... Am i going to end up spending uber extra dollars to fix the Z if something's jacked?

 

If you get a tib you'll wish you got the Z, FWD is not fun and neither is 142whp

Sorry about the incident and happy that you are uninjured. Drive the 350Z. You might like it.

 

I'd get a used Z. If you get a 2004 with 25-30k miles on it, you still have about 6k miles left under warranty. If anything does go wrong, you still have the warranty. It's just not the same comparing a Tib to a Z...

The Tiburon is a nice car dont get me wrong, but it really is no comparison... that is like deciding between a New Mazda or a used BMW... I recently bought the Z with 10,000 miles 2004, over a new Porsche Boxster, I have owned a Boxster 98' and can tell you I am very happy with the decision, if the car has some Warranty left on it, go for it, Nissans are very reliable..

 

We have had both, and honestly the Tiburon is not that bad a car, looks are good and it is fun to drive.

Choice is yours, but the Z will cost you more in the long run...

What's the easiest way to tell the package of a used Z? The wheels? All track package ones have 18" rims right?

 

One of my roommates has the V6 Tibby. It's not a bad car for getting where you want to go. We never put more then 3 people in it since I'm short and I still hit my head on the back window if I have to sit in the back. If we hit the roads together, I can catch and beat him at any speed. It's like playing with a toy. If you can drive a Tibby and be satisfied with the it. Then you shouldn't even consider the Z. You aren't ready for it.

I have a 75k mile warranty on my Z. I held off as long as I could to not void the warranty with mods. I made it a whole 4 months. But I went for easily removed ones so I hopefully should still be able to use it if anything goes wrong. If you turbo the Tibby to catch a Z then your warranty is gone anyways. Then you still have the problem of handeling and your FWD.

Also, you should consider if you afford maintance? The Z is a sports car. It requires general maintance more often if you drive it like a sports car, especially tires. Not to mention it runs on 91+ gasoline. But you might want to check on your info. The 2004 Z is rated for 20 / 26 mpg while the 2006 Tibby is 18 / 26 mpg.

The used aspect is something you'd have to consider though. It is a sports car so you'll have to look around and find a Z that wasn't beat on for the last 30k miles. But search around... I bought my 2004 Z with 10k miles on it for $20K.

I would have to say if you are even comparing these cars that you should go with the Tibby. You don't realize what your comparing. The Tibby is an economy coupe, it will run, and has a back seat. The Z is amazing. Take a test drive with the two. It will answer all your questions.

WOW, cars down here are expensiveeee, i bought my 04 with 10k for 41K, its a roadster but still!!!!

Yes, I realize it's not comparing apples to apples. I've driven both, but I also routinely drive a 2004 M3 with exhaust and CAI, soooo... Point being, I know about both cars. What I'm wondering is whether the peace of mind of buying a new car and the better hyundai warranty outweigh the obvious benefits of the Z. Just to keep things on track...

 

Dale Thompson at Bob Sharp Nissan in Wilton was my Sales guy. Nice guy too. Yeah, I saw the price and had to jump on it. If your comparing new vs old then your talking to the wrong guy.

I had a 90 Nissan 300ZX, 87 Iroc Z-28, 70 Dodge Dart among other used cars. New isn't something I've ever had. My 04 Z is as close as I've gotten. That makes more sense with what your considering then. But Nissan is rated as a more reliable car then the Hyundai. You may be covered with the Tibby... but the Z is less likely to need it.

If you routinely drive a modded 2004 M3 then I say get the Z and drive the M3 when you need a rear seat.

It's really a matter of personal taste in the end. My roommate (v6 Tibby) loves his car. I made him rebadge the car with the Tuscani logos, Intake, and Borla exhaust. Good Luck with whatever you decide.
