Question 350z ---> sr20det

I am wondering if anyone in the forums has or going to be dropping the s15 engine in their Z?

I have heard that a 3z for drifting already has this setup.

If I do get a 350z in the future, I would most likely be dropping the sr20 if everything sounds right (many Z owners have told me that the vq35 sucks when it comes to modifying)

Thanks

Well....you might want to hop in that flame suit....cuz it's-a-comin'!

I think most people wouldnt put the sr20det in their Zs mainly b/c you can make more power for the same money running a ST/TT setup and a good tune. Plus doing that swap would probably be a nightmare and you would have a huge labor bill! Might as well get 400 repliable whp and drift that!

whats wrong with the motor already in a z. if it was me wanting to do a sr20 swap i would look for a 240 shell. but thats jus me. i think the z is too much money to do a swap like that in. just an opinion.

The Z already has an amazing engine. No need for a swap.

it is lighter....but it's also older and that means there's more after market parts out for it. if you just wait a little longer the VQ will have more aftermarket products...

I don't think that would really be a good idea... the sr20 can make some good power but if you were trying to do this for a drift project you would want a lighter car than the Z... for the price of fabbing that into a Z and using a stand alone you will be better off building the stock Z motor up IMHO even thought I guess a built VQ35 with a turbo on it would be heaver than a built up sr20det... by how much I have no idea

There are a few Z33's with SR20's under the hood... They are mainly drift cars...

You could do it...

But, lighten up the drivetrane and you will be in pretty good shape with the stock rotor...

Remember back in the day the JIC drift 350Z was basicly stock and wooped bootay!

Its not a huge weight difference... both are aluminum blocks...

transmission would be lighter... as reliable as the OE Z33? ehhh.... stay away from the S15 6 Speed... the 5 speed is more reliable...

After you add the intercooler and turbo... it will probably weight more then the VQ35... my guess....
