Default It happened to me

Well, I'm now a member of the accident crew. Driving along on my way home from work and this jerkoff pulls in front of me from the shoulder. I have to slam on my brakes as hard as I can and lay on the horn. He/she goes on their merry way and 2 seconds later, bam! The black mustang from behind slams into me. I would have loved to follow the car that pulled in front of me but I can't leave the scene of the accident. I get out and exchange info with Mustang guy. On top of that, I call my insurance co. (after making a claim with his company) and find out my company is going out of business in a month. News to me. I have some pain in my neck and head from the accident so I had to make an emergency stop over at Kaiser.

As far as damage: the whole back bumber is toast. Big gap between bumper cover and body. Driver side taillight is all misaligned. Luckily, doesn't look like any damage to the sheetmetal.

I guess in cali, the guy is 100% at fault for hitting me, right? Have you guys had good luck with the dealer body shop?

He absolutely is. Take the car to a shop of your choice. An insurance company CANNOT require you to take it to a place they "recommend". If they threaten not to honor the charge, sue their butts. Seriously, take it to the best shop in town and make it clear to insurance from the beginning.

Very sorry to hear about it. I have had near-misses myself when it comes to tailgaters.

Sorry about the accident. You filed a police report correct? Ask members of your regional forum to suggest a body shop.

Could have been worse... glad you're doin okay.

The damage doesn't look too bad and should be pretty easy to have fixed/replaced.

Dude,

forget the damage to the car - its barely anything..

or the insurance company, by law they have to take care of you guys, and if they are getting bought by some other company they have to take care of you guys..

Just worry about your own injuries for now..i'm telling you what seems like a small shake in the neck or fever or headache, can become a really big hassel later on, dont play nice guy.

Go get best med attention get MRI and everything to make sure everything inside is intact - coz that you cant replace and dont worry about payments.

Learn from my moto accident experience buddy, worry about you internal stuff first!

And your car does'nt look that bad at all, and it sucks the real @ fault person got away!

But the Mustang guy should have been paying attention and its his fault (all the way, since he hit from behind!)

Best of luck buddy and hope you feel better!

Sorry to hear. Check out the regional Northern California subforums and click on the sticky titled "Unofficial Shop Directory" at the top for a list of recommended local shops.

just make sure you dont send your car to EMC in Fremont(I had a nightmare with them). Usually the guy who rearended you is 100% at fault. If your insurance is out of business just call the other party's insurance directly and tell them their client rearended your car. Your insurance co doesnt have to be involved at all.

Thanks guys for your input. You are right about the damage. It doesn't look bad but you never know what lies underneth. I will keep a close eye on the neck and make sure to mention it to State Farm when they call. Maybe some chiro. appointments. I have Kaiser so the only way they will do anything close to an MRI is if you've been shot in the neck or something. They don't really care.

The damage doesn't look too bad but make sure the sheet metal between the door and rear wheels aren't warped. From the pics i don't think there is any damage to the sheetmetal beneath the bumper. I too got rear ended back in june.

Trust me I feel you my Z's been hit 3 times. Once by some *** in Myrtle Beach who hit my Z and then left and I found it after I came out of the store split the rear bumper from top to bottom and creased the metal up the the mid of the tail light. Then some drunk hit me on the freeway and ****ed up the rear left wheele well and scraped the rim. And scratched up the left side of the rear bumper. Then some lady in a truck hit me in the parking lot yet surprisingly she stayed till I came out of the store to let me know but since the damage was so minor on the rear bumper that already needs to be replaced and she was nice and HONEST I'm not even gonna claim it because it would be pointless. Now I've got to find a good body shop in Fort Worth. Anyone know of one and a good place that would also install the nismo wing.
