Default so many sunroofs!

I know they 350Z does not have an optional sunroof or moonroof, but the dealer by my house has put moonroof's on 75% of the 350Z's on the lot!! its from some aftermarket company.. what do you guys think? I think it sucks!

What the... @()#$* ?! Take a picture, I have to see this to believe this. Ask the dealer how this will affect the support on the roof also. How much is he charging? What dealer is this?

Sounds like a dealer has taken "dealer options" to a whole new level. Really dumb.

What is the added price for the roof.

All I know about this is that aftermarket sunroofs on the 1st gen Zs was very popular, but now a days, its almost impossible to sell one with one. No one wants a cut up car. While most people won't really car about resale, I do think about it and it saddens me to think of these poor folks with holes in their Z roofs.

Theres a Honda dealership around here that is notorious for this, i dont know if they still do it, but they would put it on about half their cars and then charge for it!

Aftermarket sunroof = water leak

They almost ALWAYS leak. I'd NEVER do that to any car.

My mom had one a while back put in her DeVille. It was a really amazing install. It looked perfect and never leaked.

I just bought mine last night (black track w/nav -add leather) and I asked the GM if he had heard anything about them adding a sunroof in the future, and he said no. Structurely it won;t allow for it, unless they redesigned the roof. I cannot imagine Nissan picking up any defects under their warranty.

is nissan's warranty different then honda/acura? people on this forum are always talkin about warranties being voided...i thought the only way warranty work can be denied is if the dealer can prove it was the aftermarket part that caused the problem?...not being a nissan owner (...yet) it got me thinkin...what i'm tryna say is, if you got a sunroof put on the car and something was wrong with the engine/brakes/i dunno, somethin, Nissan would say "f-you, you got a aftermarket sunroof, your warranty is voided?"...

Sicktypes- you are correct- the warranty can only be voided for problems they can trace to the mods.
Now, the roof is a known structural member, so they could argue that many aspects of handling/suspension could be related, but not something like, say... fuel injection, etc.
It's a favorite tagline for the dealers, though- especially with an owner that doesn't know better!!!!!!

No manufacturer can void a warranty all together. They can only refuse to provide warranty service on a particular claim relating to an aftermarket part that is non-OEM spec or non-OEM quality. That part also has to be directly related to the problem in the claim.

For instance, a dealer can refuse to repair an aftermarket sunroof under the bumper-to-bumper warranty as that roof is not OEM specified in any way. However, they can't refuse to fix a transmission problem, say, because you have an aftermarket sunroof installed. They also can't void your warranty all together because of said aftermarket sunroof.

Well, all of that info about warranty is good to know. I thought that once you violate on piece of the contract, it's ALL null and void! Glad to hear it's not!

Since the G35 is basically the Z and it comes with a sunroof option, and the Z was built from the start to allow for a convertible, it does not make sense that it can't handle a sunroof structurally.

Sorry.

But an additional point: The only way to keep an aftermarket sunroof from leaking is to keep the car cover on.
