Should I buy a 350Z?
Buy a Z, if you have a 2nd car. I've owned the car 2 years, and I haven't had nothing, but smiles. I almost drive it everyday to run errands, and it seemed I have driven it for miles (8600). I really love that I can speed when I want to, and drive slowly when I want to without having a sense of the need to speed. The only drawback which isn't really for me is the lack of trunk space and lack of seats. If you want attention, buy 19s staggered and the attention will come to you. 2006 would be a better year since the '07 has the revised hood which I think is uglier than carbon fiber hoods. If you have the chance, buy it.
I don't need a new car. I have a boring Camry and it runs and runs and doesn't give me anything but dependable transportation. Having said that, I'm looking for a FUN car to drive on occasion while keeping the Camry for every day transportation. In my price range, I'm considering a 2007 350Z, wait for the 2008 Mustang GT or I may wait until the 2009 Camaro and Challenger are out.
Hey Blueshawk
I was in the exact situation. I own an older Maxima, and also wanted a weekend car, and considered the cars your looking at. Do your research like I did, and pointing out the obvious that you are already a fan of Japanese cars, if you plan on keeping the car for a while, you already know in your heart that the 'Z' is the way to go.

I used to have a 280Z and have always wanted to get another Z. I did my research & compared other similar makes & models. I ordered mine via the Internet without seeing or test driving it. The dealer found the 350Z that I wanted but it was at another dealership that was four hours away. The dealer picked it up and delivered it to me. That's how confident I was with the 350Z.
I pre-ordered my 2003 Silverstone Track model before anyone had seen them in the US. (September 2002). I drive the **** out of it, taking it aggressively and deliberately to 6000 RPM or more every time I drive it, starting at 100 miles on the odometer (picked it up with 7).
I daily-drove it for a couple of years, now at 42,000 miles I mainly run track events (HPDE) at VIR, Roebling Road, Rockingham. It is bone stock, except for brake pads and tires, and a K&N air filter.
Aside from a few NTB's (kinda like a recall but less urgent) I have had zero problems with the car. The harder I drive it, the easier it is to drive. It behaves beautifully on road and on-track, and my instructors have heaped praise on the car for its stability and predictability. (Nice to have Miata & BMW drivers praising the 350Z!
) I can't be happier.
I doubt you'd get better from your other options.

I went from a Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi to a ZR and haven't looked back once. The only thing that makes the experience better is lowering the top! I drove a Lexus SC430 and while it was nice and luxurious, it wasn't at all fun to drive. My wife has a Lexus RX330 and it's not fun to drive. I was fed up with vehicles that weren't fun to drive, and the Z was the perfect solution at the best value available.
Although the Z does not have much power compared to other cars, it is still a very fun car to drive. Once you get some better tires (upgraded suspension maybe?), the car is so much more fun to drive.
Get this... on late Friday night, a guy riding a bike [in cold weather] took the time to give me a thumbs up.

I just test drove a 2005 GTO. I will have to admit the straight ahead power was scary. It would bet any stock 350Z however on the track the Z would win. The GTO cannot corner like the Z. American muscle cars are for going straight and fast. If you want a balance of speed, torque and handling the Z is the best on the market at the price.
