Oh I have a noob question. When at a standstill in 1st when you ease off the clutch while on the gas, is that considered slipping the clutch?

Yes. Slipping the clutch is a necessary evil from a standstill - there is no way around it. The idea is to limit it as much as possible. Any time you engage the engine to the transmission when the speeds of each are mis-matched (in this example, the engine is spinning and the transmission is not), there must be slippage somewhere. Most people use the term to describe excess slippage though..... from riding the clutch (driving around with your foot always on the clutch, or using the clutch to hold yourself on a hill) to ***** footing the clutch so your engagements are smooth to make up for a lack of rev-matching....

I don't doubt you owned those cars. I doubted you were being serious about AT being better than MT. But hey, we're all entitled to our opinions.

Should I wait until the rpms drop when the cluth is just at the friction point and then add gas, or should I rev to about 1100 and then let the clutch out? If the latter, how should I let the clutch out?

For coming to a stop, put it in neutral and release the clutch pedal. You don't want to wear out the release bearing.

Also, don't put it in first while the car is still moving, esp. at higher speeds. You don't want to wear out the synchros.
