After you read many of the threads on the various Z forums, you will have an idea where I get off claiming that. Nissan put a crap MT in this car.

If i'm not mistaken, you're the one who brought up the ***** thing. And you've talking about it this entire thread. WHO CARES if you have a manual or an auto. Both sides should just shut up. I don't care what transmission someone else has. I do care however if someone says I made a bad decision, because that's non of their business. I drive a stick, that's awesome. You drive an automatic, that's awesome. You know why? Cause it's a freakin Z.

As to the original poster, just get what you feel comfortable with. Manual probably does take a little time to learn, but eventually you'll get it. If you don't think you want to go through that process (and there's nothing wrong with that) then just go with an automatic. All the advice I can give you is that I, personally, feel that the manual if fun. If you don't, go with the auto. Neither I, or anyone else in this forum should oppose whatever decision you make. Just do what you want.

So tell me, did I get a factory freak trans or do I just know how to shift. I've money shifted this car before, she's got 30k on the clock right now, and I've got no problems with my 6MT.

There is a difference between
1. A crap trans
2. A crap driver
3. Putting more power through a trans than it is built for

The online community is filled with more than enough examples of 2 and 3. I've got maybe 30 timeslips with this car. There have been days where I hooked hard enough that I thought I would break a drivetrain component. However, I have yet to. Direct me to where people have blown stock transmissions on no more than bolt ons.

And driven....no more about the *****. I was merely pointing out that a ***** size argument here is....well, somewhat flaccid in the grander scheme of things. Pun entirely intended.

Wow... a lot of hate in this forum. I think many of us have too much pride because we drive manual. And the ones that drive auto get offended..

Seriously, do what you like and what fits your need. Personally, I have a manual Z and I love it. I'm not gonna go into which is faster or whatever since it's obvious and pointless is discuss. I like to rev my engine up to 6500 rpm whenever I want, not when the computer wants it. I want to downshift from 6th to 4th when a Del Sol is trying to cut my lane. The Z is an RWD. It isn't reliable to begin with. So why get an automatic and consider it "more reliable"? If I want a reliable car, I'd get something AWD or at least FWD. If I were to drive a SUV or family sedan, I'd definitely get an automatic.

There is a nice search function for this forum. Just type in "replaced transmission." That should keep you busy for quite sometime.

man this topic is really retarded.

ive drove auto for YEARS... and i decided to buy a 350z, i took the challenge and go with the stick for a change.

long story short... i will NEVER buy an automatic again.

for those of u who bought an auto... foreal though, u guys are pansys... of course ull defend it that "u made a good decision" but still. believe what u believe. driving a stick is what makes u a good driver -- better control. when i was driving an auto... i didnt know wtf the importance of gears were.

chicks be on me like crazy about asking me to teach them to drive a stick. knowing how to drive a stick... is a skill... and girls love guys with skills. i dont care what you think,... but EVERY guy needs to know how to drive a stick. and if u have an automatic sport car... u are just a pansy. it tells others that you arnt a good driver and need to rely on an "automatic" transmission to help you.

like some1 said... if u a 16 years old girl... then yea go with automatic... but man, dudes 17-.... 40ish... u better be driving a stick. i know this one girl that goes to my school she started driving a stick when she was 15. and i gotta tell ya... im hella impressed with that. and u know what? i'd be hella embarrassed if i told her i drive an auto SPORT CAR !!! LOL

So for years (see your own writing below), you admit to being a pansy?

of course ull defend it that "u made a good decision" but still. believe what u believe.
I'm not defending anything. Just saying it's really none of your concern what [quote]others choose to drive. If you believe otherwise, then you have mental issues to work out.

driving a stick is what makes u a good driver -- better control. when i was driving an auto... i didnt know wtf the importance of gears were.
I drove big rigs for a few years. Don't try telling me what gears are. MT on a car isn't difficult.

chicks be on me like crazy about asking me to teach them to drive a stick. knowing how to drive a stick... is a skill... and girls love guys with skills.
Been married for quite sometime. Besides, I prefer women, not girls. There are website that cater to your needs, I'm sure.

i dont care what you think,...
But you expect others to care what you think?

but EVERY guy needs to know how to drive a stick. and if u have an automatic sport car... u are just a pansy. it tells others that you arnt a good driver and need to rely on an "automatic" transmission to help you.
Read what I posted above. MT on a car isn't difficult and can be learned in minutes (perfecting it takes alot longer though).

LOL...... why u attacking me?

i dont really care what u think or drive... im stating MY opinion on the matter. and YES i do agree i WAS a pansy. i still look back now wondering why i didnt get a stick before.

and yea... no ****... it takes a long time to perfect it.... u'd still look hella dumb stalling every 5min on city rd... and jerky shifts. that's why i say it is a skill that any1 can acquire. just some of you dont want to acquire such a "nice" skill.

sounds to me u have a family... then good for you sir... i'd prolly do the same thing if i had a family and my "wife" needs to drive the car. but im 19... and to me... automatic sport cars annoy the **** outta me... i look down on those people, and im sure alot of people who do drive a stick would say the same.

dont start attacking me man... i can care a **** less of what you drive. but i wont be buying MYSELF an automatic ever again. maybe as a family car in the future.

do you ever wonder why when u talk to people... they ask about ur car... u say... a 350z... and u go... it's an automatic... people would go... awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... u should have gotten a stick. EVEN though they dont drive a sport car or a manual...

i aint got time to argue with some dude online... so i wont... and yea... i aint concerning about what other people drive... im just calling them pansys for going the easy route. it aint that hard, like you said, so why not just take the challenge instead of going for an engine that does it all itself?

i dont know ur past experience with stick shift.. but ill tell ya right now... it is a hella great feeling,... it makes a sport care JUST THAT more fun

He doesn't want to be a pansy, he doesn't want to live in a Nissan service dept. and he's unsure about the size of his manhood...

My guess, he's doing a lot of >>>

Um dude it says it on nissan website that the AT is 287hp while the MT is 298 :\

If they were the same speed and power I would support it if you really wanted an auto, but the fact remains it is less powerful.

The bad thing about most autos especially in low end cars that do not offer high-tech transmissions is they take too long to try to find the gear to go into when you hit the gas hard.

Yep Of course!! Especially if it has an e-brake..

If it doesn't, it won't be as fun.

From 03-05 (except the 35th), MT/AT had same motor with exactly same crank hp/tq rating.

Which isn't the case with the Z. Sure it could always be quicker (which is what VB upgrades are for).

i read some of ur previous post... and u mentioned that most highend car are switching to paddle shifting or something like that.

mmm... stick shift will always be around... auto came out in the... what? 70s? why are they still around now? and i bet you anything... 20years from now... they'll still have stick shift.

auto can be fast if u configure it properly. still makes u a pansy though.... at a 1/4 mile... all u do is slam on the gas... OOOOOOOOOOO makes u good driver huh... compare to a guy who goes manual stock going 13secs. who is the better driver?

even if u have a ferarri auto (if there is one)... and go up against some1 in a 350z stick.... even though u can clean that 350z up by slamming the gas. in the view of an audience... u still not a "BETTER" driver.

ok better question yet... why do u have a sport car? to have fun?... stick is always more fun.... so why do u want a sport car?

auto more reliable? **** u can get many cars that are more reliable with the same price range.

You slept during history class, eh?

Only an idiot would by a Z and base it entirely on it's drag times. Maybe you shoulda bought a mustang. Me, I would rather track my car.

Then the top fuel dragsters don't impress the audience? You are aware that they are all autos, correct?

ok better question yet... why do u have a sport car? to have fun?... stick is always more fun.... so why do u want a sport car?
As was pointed out earlier... It's really none of your business why I bought my cars or any other cars I have. Enjoy what you have and I'll do likewise. So quit being a dick.
