In the morning before I go to work, I usually warm up my car for about 2 minutes. For some reason my second gears sticks a little the first 2-3 times until the car warms up and then it shifts in smoothly. I don't know if it's because of the cold (Not very cold at Oceanside, Ca) but I just noticed it and am beginning to worry a little. Does this ever happen to you guys? or should I warm up my car a bit longer. I know i'm clutching it right and I make sure of that...........but it just won't go in as smooth.

 

i would think its just from the fluid being a little cold.

Edit: I would just take it easy on the car until it warms up. The tranny will warm up fine as you drive (I don't think you need to wait to let it warm from residual heat)

 

Same here. I don't worry about because it goes away once the car gets up to temp, but that 1-2 shift is a tough one first thing in the morning. Not very cold here either, but compared to the engine temp it is.

 

yeah, prob. flush that tranny and throw in some redline mt90. you'll love your car so much more.

 

Same exact thing happens to me. I learned to live with it. But in time I noticed it starts getting better. So no worries buddy.

 

Wife and I both have 06 Z's with 6-MT's.

Mine makes a bit of noise going into 2nd. It's more pronounced when cold, but still does it when warm. POS tranny!

Wife's is completely smooth into 2nd all the time. Warm, cold, doesn't matter.

Dealer says mine is normal. Well, shyt then, I want one of the abnormally smooth trannys, please!!!!

 

That's good to know..............This is my first new MT so I'm not sure as to what a smooth shifting sound would be. I've always driven those old MT's and for some reason they always made funny noises in the mornings. I never really cared cuz it was an old car.............but this one is my baby..........I take care of this one.

I put in the Redline mt90. Cost a fortune. Don't see a bit of difference.

I started having trouble after the transmission was serviced and the gear lube replaced. Coincidentally I had it done soon after moving to NC from Florida in November. I assumed it was just because it was colder up here but it used to get cold in Pensacola too and I never experienced this amount of difficulty shifting when it's cold outside (30-40 degrees).

In the garage the shifter moves easily until I get a load on it. But once on the road it can be very difficult to get it into 2nd and have difficulty going back to 1st at a stop. Problem goes away after about five minutes of driving but something's not right. I'm curious if they put a differenct lube into the tranny when it was serviced.

Around the same time I started hearing a high pitched whine when it is cold from under the hood that goes away after 5-10 minutes that seems to vary in tone with driving speed, but not engine rpm.

...It's going back to the shop on Tuesday.

 

I would have to say its from the cold since my Z somewhat does that but it goes into 2nd smoothly after the first shift. I live in LA which is not known to be very cold but still at times it gets chilly and what your experiencing is normal. (i hope for all of our sakes)

 

No need for 2nd, shift from 1st to 3rd

tech, wouldnt that decrease your gas milage?
from what I know, shifting to the right gear at the right speed helps your fuel effeciency... unless your really pushin it.
