Default Strange noise, new transmission......

So I was going to work last Saturday, when I heard a strange noise coming from the area of the transmission/clutch. It sounded like something had come loose and was banging around inside the assembly. I immediately stopped and looked, but it was not visible from outside, obviously. There was also a slight burning odor. The noise went up and down with the rpms, and was especially loud at the lower rpms. I noticed the sound in neutral, but it was worse in gear.

The dealership replaced my clutch under warranty about 700 miles earlier, so I suspected that something had not been bolted in tightly, and had come loose. I called the dealership, and the car was picked up on a flatbed from work, and dropped off at the dealership.

I had to wait until Tuesday to hear, as it was New Years Monday. I finally got a call, and was told that the clutch assembly, throw out bearing and all appeared to be fine, but that they thought the noise was coming from the transmission, so it was replaced under warranty.

Now the sound is gone, and I am breaking in a new transmission.

Only one glitch. I immediately noticed that 5th and especially 6th gear are a little stiff going in. After leaving the car with them again, I was told to give it 1,000 miles, and if it didn't improve, they would put another new transmission in. That was also noted on the service ticket.

We'll see how it goes, and it seems to have improved some.

I am thankful for a dealer which actually goes out of the way to see the customer is taken care of.

boy i sure wish the dealer would cover my tranny.

16000 miles on a clutch that apparantly was burned out (which i dont understand why)

then 500 for the install, and 800 for the new nismo clutch kit.

What does covering your tranny have to do with your clutch?

The clutch is a user wear item and not covered under warranty (as I'm sure you know)..

I have had 2 clutch replacements under warrranty to go along with my 2 transmission replacements. That's right, my 03 with 34K miles is on it's 3rd clutch and third tranny. Cost to me =0. Serioulsly, If your clutch is only lasting 15K miles you would REALLY have to be beating that car badly or its a monufacturing issue(which it is). I have had quite a few Manual car and NEVER replaced a clutch. My 95 Corolla is sitting at 143,000 miles on the ORIGINAL CLUTCH. These Z's are DEFECTIVE, period.

it depends on how it is written up but the dealer... most dealers know the stock z/g clutches and transmissions are pieces of crap... and also clutches are designed to last past 10000 miles... a mileage that many z/g clutches never see

Well if the tranny is defective the clutch could technically be covered along with it... my point was that if you burn your clutch up and there is nothing wrong with anything else..... that's on you unless you can prove the clutch was defective (highly doubtful)... Most prematurely worn clutches are due to the driver.... no question about it...(a lot of people with manuals can't drive for crap) and I totally disagree that our clutches are junk... I don't particularly like the heavy setup... but they aren't junk.... considering people with respectable hp increases are running the stock setup with no problems....

I'll agree that the transmissions aren't the best by any standards. I've never liked mine, but at 35k it still gets the job done.
