Default 350z vs evo 8

Alright so I have been looking at getting a 350 for a while now and it looks like I shouldnt have a problem doing it since I got approved for a loan today. Anyways I have been looking at a 04 STI and EVO 8 also, but my question is that for the $$$ what would be a more capable car. I have driven all three and enjoy them all for what they offer over the next. I have a friend that has a evo already and bought it for 20,000 and with less then 3g's is running low 13's and handles absolutly insane. For the money Im thinking that the evo cant be beat as far as a all around street car goes, but at the same time I dont really know what the 350 is capable of. He is telling me that it would take a lot of money for a 350 to keep up with him and that the 350 would run out of potential faster. Basicly I am just looking for a all around great performance car per dollar. I would like to auto x, and drag whatever car I purchase, but it will also be daily driving. So as far as all around performance goes, could I keep up with the turbo guys with a few thousand in mods, or would I just be better off getting a evo or sti?

In a straight line the Evo will be faster with only a few grand invested. The old adage stands true though, there is no replacement for displacement and the Z beats the Evo by 75% and I believe it also weighs less and certainly has less drivetrain loss. If drag racing for cheap is what you like, then Evo it is. If backroad brawling is what you like, I'm putting my money on the Z. Highway racer, the Z has more displacement.

Only my granny has 4 doors, I'll leave it at that.

Last year, i owned both an Evo and a 350. Sold the Evo a few months after i bought it and Twin Turbo'd my 350. This car will CRUSH my old Evo that i spent about $6k modding with out question. It's fast as hell and it's for sale PM sent. Seriously though, the Evo is fast, but it's a bigger threat off the line. Once it's rolling, anything with some guts can run with it. My boy's 240 would woop me all the time in 3rd gear pulls. Heh.. Not with my TT350 though.

Check your PM's.

Not true at all. Just that the evo is the only thing I have real world experiance with as far as comparison goes.

hate to break it to ya, but EVO 8s are much much slower than what I'd expected. I did like 8 runs with the evo 8 on an empty freeway and destroyed him pretty badly..

Thanks for the offer subrwho but its a bit out of my price range. My friends evo only has a program and cat delet with cat back on it. It is nuts off the line for sure, but I would hardly call it a slouch from a roll. His traps speeds are high 105's and from a roll it hangs with my friends ws6 ta no problem. If I was to get a track edition 350 would I be right about there with a few bolt on's?

It does seem like you have made up your mind already.
*you want a car that is easily modded with minimal $$$ and effort..* Evo/STI it is..

Good luck,

The 350Z is mostly for cruising around town listening to CDs. Better get yourself a Fast and Furious 4-door.

Nope you read that wrong. He ONLY has a cat back exhaust cat delete and mail in flash wich was about 1100 total. Total in mods is about 3g's though...... suspension, tint, and few small things here and there add up.

Evos and STis are family sedans with big ricewings slapped on. I'd never a buy a car just because it may be slightly faster (or maybe not) than an amazing looking one (Z). No matter what you get it all still depends on how much extra money you're going to drop into it...

Z = fast sports car
Evo/STi = fast family sedan w/ wing

The choice was clear for me

last time I checked, families don't drive Evos/STI's!

If you want to have that "fast and the furious" look, get the evo, with the gigantic wing, clear taillights, and sonic the hedgehog's spikes on the roof.

If you want a sleek, balanced sports car, I'd say Z.

I cant see the pics you posted dave. My work blocks links from host sites. As for the family sedan with a wing goes.... That would hardly sway my opinion since I think all three look great. I love the way the 350 drive's I just dont like the lack of power it has stock. Granted how fast you want to go largly depends on your wallet size, some cars just take to moddifacations better then others. For instance I could easily make a 350 considerably faster then a evo if I TT it like subrwho did, but what would the evo be capable of doing with that same 6 grand into it?
