I don't know if it's just me, but every time I change my oil, my car feels much faster than before. All the gears pull harder and it just feels like the engine doesn't have to work as hard. Do you guys notice this too, or could it be that my engine is eating oil faster than it should?

Well how fast are you going through oil? Are you maintaining proper oil levels?

I feel the same way but I know it's all in my head. If it was really true then I would change my oil every week

I don't feel like I'm burning through oil any faster than I usually do. My guage is about a millimeter below the line that's between 0 and 60 psi. While I'm driving around just cruising it's at about 60 or so. Are those normal readings? I haven't changed my oil yet (going to this weekend), but I remember noticing the power difference last time I changed it.

I think its all in your head. Race after a good nights sleep and breakfast. Your times will be better than if you race when you are not feeling well.

i feel this way after i give the girl a good wash/wax/ and polish...

probably reduces the drag coefficient and thereby adds at least a hundred horses right? lol jk.

i have had cars with really old oil that when i changed the oil, did infact become significantly faster. Its possible but probably mostly a psych thing.

A dyno will prove such a notion wrong. In all honesty, I sometimes feel the Z drives better after a detail. Now that is super silly territory folks!

With new oil, my z feels a lot smoother. I remember after I changed my tranny/differential fluid and engine oil at 18k miles, the car felt as smooth as the day I first bought it. It was definitely a little faster, and I think because it was a lot smoother, it seemed like it was twice as fast (that's the psychological part). Oil gets thicker as it's used, and thicker oil does create a little more drag on some moving parts than thinner oil, so maybe the engine does rev faster with new, thinner oil.

Please tell me you are joking!!

If there is anyone in else in your house right now, ask them to slap the living bejesus out of you. If you honestly think your oil pressure gauge has anything to do your oil level, you have no business driving a car, much less a 350z.

When was the last time you actually checked your oil?

My car feels a hell of a lot better after an oil change.... that's usually cause I'm getting topped off from being a few quarts low...

Its all in your head. Kind of like how it seems like your car runs better after a good cleaning.

When I switched from Mobil 1 to RP, I noticed more power and smoothness from the engine. I also noticed that with RP, after 1500 miles, it's not as smooth as the Mobil 1 after 1500 miles. I never had to top off the oil because of oil burning. I did my oil change on Monday after 4000 miles since the last and never had to top off the oil. I'm going to go to 5000 with this oil change since royal purple is soooo goood.

umm its not all in your head, its common sense if you think about it duh!
If oil lasted forever then we wouldnt be in this stupid thread but it doesn't so therefore we have to change it. You do feel a difference in smoother accel and such but I wouldn't say u gain more power. New oil is that NEW OIL! I always noticed a diff in my old VQ 99 Max that after a fresh oil change it would run alot smother and be slightly more responsive.
