A Cayman S can smoke a 911 on the track. It just needs a LSD and maybe an exhaust system and thats it.

Between a Boxster and a Cayman, I'd get the Cayman. Better structural rigidity/stiffness.

Cayman S will beat a base Z in a straight line, too as well as in the corners. And you can "restore" the Cayman to its pre-production potential with aftermarkets. Or, if you have $245k to spend, you can drop off your Cayman at Ruf for them to "buff it up a lil' bit" (440bhp).

Meh, would still rather have the 911 if I had the money.

Well, sometimes you just can't compete with classic, iconic looks. The 911 is instantly recognizable. Make mine a 997 Turbo.

Boxster... FTL... literally. I took a Boxster S down pretty easy from a 60-120+ (we weren't street racing... it was..uh.. a closed course... )

I like the Cayman a lot but if I could break down for a P car it's be a GT3... or maybe Carerra GT.

The Caymen S with 'only' 295hp is faster than the Z.
You're talking about german engineering here..and Porsche is known
for having the best chassis and laying down the most of their available hp to the road.
The 911 Carrera S with 'only' 355hp will reach 0-60 in 4.5 sec and will be faster
on the track than cars with more than 100hp more.

Even top gear tested the base Carrera against a beastly 500 hp M6 back in a 2005 episode, and the Carrera annihilated that thing on a road with quite a few curves, corners and bends. 175 hp less and nearly 30k less in price than the M6 too.

Y'all need to read "lightning lap" in the November '06 issue of Car and Driver.

On a 4.2 mile road course (Virginia International Raceway), the Cayman outperforms the Z.

But considering that it is over twice the price, the difference is not very significant. The Porsche turned in 3:09.5 lap time (av spd 79.8) and the Z turned in a 3:12.5 (av spd 78.5)

I think I 'd rather have 2 Zs than one Cayman. Maybe a coupe AND a roadster.

While I am sure what you are saying is correct, does the Z have the same amount of PRESENCE that the Cayman has?

Actually, according to the article I referenced above the base price/as tested price for the Z (TracK) was $28,255/35,865 and for the Cayman it was $59,965/68,650.

I would definately drive a cayman. If i were in the market for a 60K sports coupe that's what i'd have. Not a whole lot faster than the Z in a straight line, but it out handles and out refines the Z by quite a bit.

Of course not.

But I buy toys that impress ME, not to impress my neighbors.

Actually, I looked at and considered the Cayman before I pulled the trigger on the Z. (I really am a big Porsche fan). It really was the only other car I seriously considered. I just couldn't convince my self that the Cayman was worth twice the price, or that the Cayman was worth the additional maintenance costs.

3 seconds on a 4.2 mile course is "quite a bit"??

The Cayman is a sweet ride for sure. Is it 70K sweet? I don't think so. I can think of several cars in that price range I would take over the Cayman in a heartbeat.

Neither did I.

Make no mistake, I really liked the Cayman, it just wasn't worth more than twice what I paid for the Z.

If it had been maybe $12-15K more, I think I would have bought it. The Boxster would have been in the "acceptable" range, but I didn't want another roadster (not even a Porsche roadster)

In my opinion those people that choose a 350Z over a Porsche Boxster or a Cayman are a very different kind of people. What I'm trying to say here is that the folks that buy a Porsche Vs A Nissan 350Z care more for the status that the car portrait's vs the performance. In other words, they just like to say that they drive a Porsche, and rightfully so, if they know how to drive one. In the other side of that coin, Z drivers really know the value and performace that the Nissan 350Z has to offer for the money.

if after watching the following video you are not convince on which car to get, then you fall into the former category. Enjoy the following video:

True that.
And I know it's been said thousands of times but, for performance, looks and value, you just can't beat the Z.
