Cayman weights something like 2911 lbs. Generally about 300-400 lbs lighter than the Z.
I don't like the look of the Cayman. Rear end looks like fat person sat on it as a kid.
I would love a 996 GT3 though.

I see different weights for the Cayman-S...

Can we move on now?

Like Gothchick said I love my ZR but the only thing stopping me from putting a Cayman in my garage with her is the cash. luke Warm on the Boxter S and chose the Z over that convetible as well as the others, but the first picture on the page is like sex. So good it hurts

Here's my stance on this issue. If I had $80,000 to put into a car these would be my options:
1) Buy a Cayman S with minimal to no upgrades and use the remaining cash to add I/E and a LSD. The result is a sick *** car that would shred the track with 911 performance.
2) Buy a VQ35HR Grand Touring Z with all the bells and whistles. Use the remaining cash to completely build the motor, add a nice twin turbo setup with full exhaust, put in some swaybars, beef up the suspension and the brakes, install a performance clutch and flywheel, tune the final drive, put on some lightweight 5Zigen racing wheels, and top it off with an aero kit. The result... well it pretty much explains itself.
I think I'd take the second option. But that's just me.

Yeah, I think I might start saving in that direction. Hmmm, 370Z in '09, or a Cayman S in 2010... Choices, choices... Maybe I can refi the house to get into a Cayman S sooner... :-)

This is for all of you Boxster/Cayman haters out there.
First of all, just to make sure you know exactly what a Cayman is, it's a Boxster coupe. Nearly the same car as the Boxster but with a fixed top thus giving it a stiffer chassis resulting in slightly better handling. For all intents and purposes, they are almost identical in performance.
Now for how the HP. Yes they are both 295 and yes they would beat a 350Z any day straight line. 0-60 is 4.8 sec (as fast as the E46 M3) on the Boxster S/Cayman S. 350Z is still pushing about half a second slower...even with the new 3.5L engine that is more powerful. Why is this? It's because the 350Z weighs a good 500-600lbs more! Also, mid-engine is less drive train loss resulting in more power at the wheels.
Handling. I think we will all agree the Boxster/Cayman will easily outhandle the 350Z any day. Mid engine layout for perfect balance and then take into account the 500-600lbs of reduced weight. I think we get the picture.
For those that think this is the poor man's Porsche and think that if you are going to get a Porsche, it should be a 911. Well sorry to tell you this guys but the Boxster/Cayman is superior to the 911. The 911 is flawed, extreme rear weight bias makes handling tricky. Some say this gives the car character. Ultimately you can't break the laws of physics. The Cayman has been clocked doing better lap times than Carrera S on the same track with 50 less hp!!! That just goes to show you how impressive the Boxster/Cayman platform is.
Yes the Porsche is overpriced but in this case, you do get what you pay for. It is one of the best driving cars on the road today. A true sports car. By the way, look for a good used one. One heck of a deal to get a 2-3 year old Porsche that has usally been babied for the price of a 350Z.
Seriously you need to stop hating. E46 M3 performance with much better handling.

^^^ I agree to all points except the 500-600lbs... ?
2007 Z... CW-3350
Cayman-S... CW-3325 via MT test weight data...
I'm also switching my FD to 3.9. The Cayman-S has a 3.88FD. I'll be that much "closer" to matching its n/a performance.

kolia, you do care... its why you drag raced one. You were curious, just like the rest of us, add a little fun to the mix and you have yourself a race
I care because I'm competitive. I usually let the other guy rev or lurch first, then I know the games on... This way I don't look like the first one that has something to prove, LOL! That and my Z looks like it could ***** slap most other stock cars
