i just asked the dealer today about this, he said he knows nothing about a TSB on it. If there is one, what warranty covers it? i don't have the bumper to bumper anymore, just the power train. anyone with some info on an actual TSB would be great.

Past two times ive filled up, I have put in over 15 gallons and then today I filled up with 17.3, but that was after driving with ---- for about 100 miles. Strangely though my fuel gauge went up to ALMOST full... but Im sure my light will still come on at like 275 miles again. Now I just know when I need gas by using my trip-meter and waiting until about 320-370 miles to fill up.... today was 390 and I put in the 17.3 gallons. FYI.

I think I'm going to try that. Truthfully. Once I see the lines I get a little worried. But I know that I have plenty of gas to go. I think I've maxxed out @ 270 miles on a tank. I've only ever pumped a max of 15-16 gallons.

I just reset my mpg gauge also when I fill up and keep an eye on the mileage for the tank and then use that x 20 gallons to get a rough estimate of how many miles I can go before fill up... and I always underestimate so I wont run out of gas.

You do realize that the if you select the fuel mode on the multi-function display, it does that for your, right?

bailey bill that DTE will only be on what the gas gauge reads of 16 gallons. The Z tank is 20 gallons but the gauge doesn't read that much, so the number would be low.

I think I've maxxed out @ 270 miles on a tank.
Are you saying you can only go 270 miles on a tank? Do you floor it everywhere you go? You aren't FI so your mileage should not even be close to that bad.

Yeah the gas gauge needle and DTE gauge (what you are talking about) are in sync and are BOTH way off....

Zmazing - I think they meant that they get 270 max before the dte goes ----

Default Same Issue

It seems there are a bunch of different issues here, which is pretty consistent with the consensus that Nissan has fuel accuracy problems.

My car does this weird thing when it has a 1/4 tank left. Sometimes it says empty, and very low miles until empty, and then other times it says I have a 1/4 tank or a little less and plenty of miles to go.

Anyone have this exact issue and somehow get it resolved, or is everyone just keeping the gas level high and ignoring the problem?

Yep, my gauge is off too. But the math is simple and the computer is accurate in regards to average mpg and distance. No worries.

I've done the same with my Z when I got it back from the shop. I let it get to --- and drove about 60 miles back home. The next morning I took it to my local gas station and filled up. I got about 17 gallons in (which is about what I always got in), but my needle still didn't reach full (only 7/8th full).

After that fill up, I drove until my display read --- again. When I went to fill up, I only got 14 gallons in and my tank still only read 7/8th full. Since then I can only get about 14-15 gallons into my tank before it cuts off and the needle only goes to 7/8th max.

I've had this issue in the past and nissan replaced my sending unit and that fixed everything for about 10,000 miles; but, my problem is back!

I take it the fuel system is NOT part of the powertrain warranty, huh? I wonder how much it will cost to have both sending units replaced. Its not a major problem (knock on wood) but little things really drive me nuts!

Default Works fine for me even after......

Works fine for me, even after it starts blinking when the DTE goes below 0.

Yep, I have the fuel gauge problem, too.

2004 Touring.

Around the 1/2 full mark or lower, the gauge will often show empty and time to refill when I've only driven approximately 200 miles - and lately I've been driving fairly consistently, not romping on the gas at all. Eventually it will bounce back up to where it should be but then it races back to 'empty'; especially if I stop the car and restart a little while later.

I will typically fuel up at ~310 miles and only put in about 15.5 gallons.

I asked the dealership about it last time I took my Z in for service and the service writer said it was because the tank is 18 gallons, not 20. :wtf:

I have all of the aforementioned problems. I sweat after driving 30 miles while it reads '---.---' only to have the nozzle click off after 15.5 gallons or so. By then I'm roughly 350 miles or more. I'm averaging about 23mpg, so I'm sure I'm good to at least 400 miles on each tank before I actually run out of gas.

The stock gas tank is 20 gallons. The gauge is calibrated for 18-18.5 gallons. When your gauge works, you should be above F when it is filled. If you have the gas gauge problem, you will be slightly below F when the car stops filling.

Mine started having a promled for a couple months. Its showed 1/4 tank lower than it was. I flogged the car on some hard turns and it started working right again. Maybe something was stuck or caught in my tank for the fuel level.

I've gotten 525 miles on a single tank and still only filled up with 18 gallons IIRC. I love this car! One tank of gas all the way to Summit Point!
