My 04.5 meters perfectly too. Low light comes on at about 3 gallons left. Maybe I have a factory freak. Perfect to me. I fill up at all different types of stations with no premature shut off issues.

??? The best mileage is 18mpg. WTF? Time for a tune up? Or, do you do a lot of in town driving?

Yeah, that how I saw it too. The older cars I have are more inacurrate. The one on my Z seems to be really accurate.

Well it seems my gas guage is working... I only drove 350 miles, but my car just died on me in the middle of a busy intersection (almost died when I was in the middle of the intersection).. Luckily I had enough power to get to the side of the lane and put on my hazards.. Filled up with 5 litres from a gas station down the street and got home to fill up the rest.. filled it with 70.1 Litres (so around 75 total), but the tank should be 80 litres... Never ran out of gas before in my life.. hope I didn't mess up anything on the car.. anyone know what could be damaged (fuel pump?).. I tried to start it after it died on me about three or four times in a few minutes but no luck. When I put gas in, I turned key to ON position for a few seconds.. back off.. and back on again.. then off.. then fired it up. sputtered at first just under 1k RPM, then shot up to 3000 and down to 900...

i havent experienced this yet. my gauge seems pretty accurate so far. i filled up at halfway under the 3/4 full mark and it took 6 gallons. i know the 300zx has a similar problem. even when the light comes on the car still has 5 gallons left. the capacity for that car is 18.7 gallons but ive never put more than 13 in.

When I fill my car, it shows right at the full mark - not past the mark. You can notice needle movement after about 10 miles so the tank must not register full. Last week, I filled the car and the put 425 miles on it with the mileage computer showing 25.8 MPG. The needle was just below the empty mark, the yellow light had been on for the last 50 miles and the DTE was flashing - - -. I filled up with 16.3 gallons, so my math shows slightly over 26 MPG, and I should have been able to go about another 96 miles.

I sniveled about this a few times when I had the car in for service and they don't think it's a big deal. They even filled my tank once (at today's prices, a nice gesture) to "prove" that the thing shows full. They only proved that they don't get it. So other than it being a minor irritation, s'ok.

The Z is: 2007 Grand Touring coupe, San Marion blue, 6 speed, NISMO Catback exhaust.

This issue really just kicked in on my 2003 today. Filled up last night, drove 24 miles and now it won't come off half a tank! ARRRGH!

i once had this problem. my gas gauge or line was near the E before i parked it. After a couple of hours i start it up again and the line was past the E. It was the strangest thing i seen my Z do. I thought maybe i had a gas leak or osmething but after turning the car off and back on again it went back to where it should be.

The guage in my 07' appears to work exactly like it should. When I get to "----" and fill it up I can put in about 17.5-18 gallons. That is ideal since it's not good to run your tank completely empty. Plus I've read that if the tank gets almost empty then the fuel pump is no longer submerged in gas and therefore gets hotter and could potentially burn out.

I have only had the pump shut off a few times before the tank was actually full. I just pulled the pump out and put it back in and restarted pumping then the tank continued filling to full. It's like air got trapped and cut off the fuel flow into the tank or something. But removing and re-inserting the pump seemed to fix the issue.

Some of you sound like you have legitimate problems that the dealer should investigate.

I had the same problem in my Audi TT. I had to take an alcohol swab to the sensor contacts of my fuel senders and everything worked after that.

Wow I just started having a similiar problem...

When I was on Empty last night with the gas light I went to fill up, I only filled up to 14.5 gallons and thats with me Rounding off to the nearest Dollar so It wanted to stop earlier.

If I have a 20 gallon tank, how could it fill up at under 15 gallons! So I guess I have about 4-5 gallons left?

I agree my 05 350Z rarely register a full tank until I go over a bump or something. Sometimes it does but thats true with my 2001 Infiniti also to be fair most of the time it does show full without the added trip over the rail road track that the Z needs.

ok...again, has anyone found out if this is covered under warranty to fix? also, is everyone having the same problem and if they are, how much is it if you have to pay for it. mine is driving me nuts.....drove 25miles and dropped 1/4 of a tank! but when all is said and done, i end up w/ 22mpg at each fill up.

Anyone try any fuel system cleaners for this? My buddy who used to be a tech at the benz dealership said that sometimes he would see this happen to cars because the sensor in the tank would get gummed up.
