I would say the 06 between the two (DB = ), but +1 on finding a low mileage 05 touring for a few grand less. Might be worth the wait to get a better deal.

im sorry...msrp is 30,000 for the 2006

but by all means, the 2006 if far out of reach for my newly calculated spending limit. so the new question would be how much would you buy the 2003 for?

No point in calculating a target price for the 2006 if it is beyond your budget. What is the KBB price for the 2003 in your area?

There is no way in hell I'd get an 06 in hindsight... oil consumption is one huge reason but the improvements in the 07 are worth it alone. Maybe consider an 07 with less options.

85 miles on a "new" '06!?

Everyone and his brother probably beat on it since it was new.

I'd do more shopping.

thanx!!

just an update...i found an 05 touring for cheaper. its around $22,000 and has just over 30,000 miles on it. only thing is the carfax report has 18 records i didnt check to see what they were, but im going to find out more info. i know the reports could be from the title being changed from one person to another, or from being serviced...so im trying to think positive and hope its no accidents! but does an 05 touring with that many miles for that price sound too good to be true??

My advice: if you only have $2,000 to put down, don't buy a car yet. Keep working and saving until you have at minimum $5,000, or better yet, $10,000.

I know this isn't what you want to hear. Just think very carefully about your financial position and consider whether you really want to get into debt to this extent right now. Seems like a descent into financial hell to me, considering all costs, no matter which one you buy.

it would be a good idea to save, yes, but I need a car (preferably within the next 3 weeks) I have a trade in and I don't have any other bills to pay... so I can afford 2-300 a month for a payment with an additional 100 a month coming from a family member. I'd agree to save 5-10,000 if the car were an 07 which costs a substancial amount more....but saving 10,000 would bring the cost to around the price of this 05...and saving 10,000 would take a little to long seeing as how my current car is becoming unreliable in its old age. I'd be happy with an 05 :-)

Okey-doke, it's your money. Just don't cry in pain when you get the insurance bills, pay for fill-ups, take care of that unexpected emergency down the road....or that family member has an emergency and can't chip in the $100 any more....

Just running some basic calculations, at 6% with a 60 month loan, a payment of $200 a month will buy you about $10,000, $300 will get you roughly $15,000, and $400 about $20,000.

Taking the middle figure, a $15,000 loan for 5 years at 6% will end up costing you a total of $2,400. (You'll pay $17,400, in other words.)

You could save $10,000 in 2 years, if you start with the $2,000 you have now and add $300 a month, and earn 5%.

Not telling you what to do, just saying look at the whole picture and think about how much risk and additional expense you really feel comfortable with at this point in your life.

What happens in three weeks?

Really I don't know your money situation at all but from what you are saying at this point you really don't need to buy much less new.

I would stick to used. 2005 seems like a good year overall

just look around for a good deal and you'll find one. i picked up my 04 touring with 18,000 miles on it for 18 grand....if you search hard enough and talk to the seller you might just find the model you're looking for in your price range.

I would stick to new cars if possible. 07' Base or 07' Enthusiast if doable. Good luck shopping

what would you change to make either one a "good deal"?

I just got back from test driving the 2003 and it felt pretty good! No noticeable problems (even the flip up console in the middle worked perfect lol) the leather seats were still in good condition, shifted nice and felt solid. I also asked about extended warrantys and all...

The original salesman who was going to help me (before he got fired/quit) quoted me at $530 a month for the 06, but my new associate quoted me at a MINIMUM of $613 a month... with a 2,000 down payment, the 03 would be low 400's maybe even mid to high 3's. Now keep in mind i am a college student and will be in Florida (no snow tires to the above poster) and im not sure if id be able to handle that 2006 monthly payment... so i guess im leaning towards asking what price would you buy the 2003 touring model (34,4xx miles) for?
You should be able to find an 03 touring for less than $22,400. I bought mine two years ago for $22,100 with 18k miles. However, I searched and searched and bought it in another state. BTW, I've had few problems with it. The tire feathering was fixed with a simple alignment, the tranny had been replaced by the previous owner (under warranty) and I've replaced the window motor.
