Hey, a new member of the Z fam here.
i been acually a fan of the evo for years. but after years of thinking, i finally decided that i dont think il be able to even maintain a evo. too much maintainence. especially $ for insurance for that dam thing. And my block is pretty dangerous for cars. My block acually had 3 cars stolen.... one was mine. I dont think i could stand to be lookin out side my window all night and not get sleep because ill be paraniod.
no garage
. i know its possible to steal a Z but how hard is it compared to the evo????
i know evo and a Z are both big targets.

I put a 500 watt fixture over my car on a stealth motion detector. Lights the driveway like daytime instantly when someone steps in the driveway. It works very well. (im an electrican) only cost me like 50 bux

Yeah, unless you want to keep getting new cars and dealing with increasing insurance costs b/c of this, I'd wait. I know it would suck to have to wait, but i really like my car, and getting a replacement just wouldn't be the same, especially if you have put time/money into mods.

Put lo-jack on it, thats what I did with my '07. If you are still paranoid put a kill switch on it too.
I understand peace of mind with your car is hard when its a Z. S**T, I am paranoid just leaving it parked anywhere with A-holes that will ding it or god knows what.

I thought the Z had a chip in the key and unless it detects it it will not run? if so wouldn't that make it pretty hard for someone to steal a Z unless they have the actual key?
I don't see the point of putting a chip in the key, etc.... if anyone could just mess with the ignition and get it started......any clues?

there are a wealth of aftermarket alarms out there, specifically those made by Directed Electronics. they also can put radar sensors in which you can activate at night. if a body with enough mass gets within a certain specified distance of your car, the alarm will trigger. i have this in my Z.
once the alarm triggers, the starter motor is killed and power to the fuel pump is cut. it sends a signal to my two way remote inside the house that tells me exactly what triggered the alarm (radar sensors, shock sensors, roll sensors on the X and Y axis, door sensors, window break sensors). the keyfob will vibrate and beep while the alarm is activated.
that should give you enough heads up to come outside guns a blazing
