Either way, I just put that in there as a maximum....to show that even THEN does it still make sense to pay for 91+.

One more time for all the newbies and people that don't know how to read up on something before they open their mouth. Octane boosters in the store DO NOT ADD 2-3 points! Only 0.2-0.3! Toluene and xylene are two of the top chemicals for octane boosting and can still cause damage if not mixed right. GO BUY A HYBRID if your worried about gas prices not a Z! Time to kill this thread......

here is an article about detonation, pre-ignition and what might happen to your engine if you mis-fuel it...

kind of a long read but good

What part of our stock engines the stock ECU's will adjust with only a slight loss in performance do you not understand. Do you know much about cars, have you worked on them , have you ever had a car knock?

You will never hear knock on a modern engine. If you do, it's getting hurt real bad!

The ECU will retard timing well before that, as soon as it hears some pre-ignition and/or partial knock.

If you have heard knocking, then your engine has most probably suffered damage.

My comment was addressed to those who say they've never heard their engine knock on regular fuel so they imagine they're ok. In most cases, they'll never get to hear it.
