That is the first thing I bought was a Clifford 2 way pager alarm. Works up to one mile. Full proximity sensor and backup. If your going to have a nice car you should buy the most important mod.. an alarm. Sorry for your loss.

Well my insurance did put me up with a rental. I have USAA and they've always been great to me in the past. It's nice to trust your insurance company and feel comfortable with their service.

Someone asked where I live - I'm in LA, off of Wilshire.

Thanks to everyone for the condolences and the advice

you sure you didn't park illegally on the street and got towed?

If not, sorry for the loss

I'm glad you've never had to report a car stolen. The first thing the cops do is check to see if it's been impounded. No luck for me.

Thanks anyways man.

It was probably towed(Flatbed).

Due to the theft problems here in southern Arizona I went and had a very good alarm installed on the car that has all the usual sensors but also includes a tilt sensor that will sound the alarm if the car is jacked up or lifted. Something you may want to look into on your next vehicle.

LoJack is prob your best bet, but LoJack wont work in the states that currently doesnt have that coverage, so if your state did have coverage and they took it to somewhere that doesnt your LoJack is useless. Their is one feature LoJack offers (an upgrade from standard LoJack but at a high price) is they have a warning system. If your key FOB isnt in the car and the car starts moving on its own for over something like 15 mins the LoJack people will call you to notify you that your car is moving without the key FOB inside the car. at that point you can tell them "oh i lent it to my friend" or say "oh snaps wtf, go get my car!" nice features but without the warning feature the odds of you finding out 10 mins after its stolen is still not so great and professoinal dismantlers dont need all night to strip a car.

I have a viper 5000 pager alarm with proximity alarm, just looking in the window will emit a warning and page me. Also have lojack with early warning. I did have it towed one time with the key in my pocket, the early warning did alarm but it was about an hour later. I did have my car egged one time when my pager was out of range, I think the house I was parked in fron of got pissed due to excessive alarms at night.

Even with every thing I have as a deterent I still think if a professional thief wants it he'll get it, even if it's at gunpoint when I'm getting in or out.

The cops said what the theifs do is park the car somewhere for 2 days and keep an eye on it. If the car gets picked up, then they know it had LoJack, and if they come back and it's still there, then they know they're home free. But I guess it will still get your car back.

I like the idea of the proximity alarm, but I always thought car alarms were a scam - like someone said, if they want it, they're gonna get it. I guess it's more about making it more of a hassle for them, since there are the easier cars out there - which I guess mine was one of 'em

My truck was stolen in the 80's. Salinas - The cops found the guys and chased them into a wreck. The truck had almost every panel repaired and it took over 3 months to get the truck back. The day I got it back I traded it in on a new truck.

Yes, it was a horrible experience but, you'll live through it and probably come out the other side in better shape.

I mean really, who steals a bare bones Toyota PU with 2WD? It was a hot truck back then I guess.... pun intended.... ;-)

clubs are easy to take off because the wheel is a vulnerable spot. some company makes stronger ones you can put on your clutch.

Flatbed or tow truck for sure. The Z ain't an easy car to steal. To start the Z without the chipped key makes it pretty tough deal for a thief. Either that or you're being "Overhauled". Only things that could make sense.

If you ever get it back and decide to get rid of it, good luck selling it. Over here it automaticly gets a salvage title if it is stolen.

I really hope it was locked, because even some of us forget to lock our cars sometimes, and that's deadly. I feel bad for what happened to you =( Perhaps next time you can invest in an aftermarket alarm, with a two-way pager, that way you will have a fighting chance of saving your car.

3. Who is your insurance carrier?
4. Sorry to inform you guys that Z is a target for alot of thiefs in socal. The other day my buddy went to class (USC) came back to the lot, saw some hispanic dude sitting in his car. He was like WTF? the dude was like, "Oh sorry, I didn't know this was your car" anyways the cut the long story short, he boned out and my buddy couldn't restrain both him and accomplice.
What parking lot at USC? I currently go there too and have been hearing about a lot of car thefts. I hear some of the facilities employees are in on it. They scope the parking lots out and call their buddies to come jack your car.

To OP sorry for your loss. Hope the bastards get what they deserve.
