350z?
Hey guys what’s up! I am new here to your guys forum. I don’t currently own a 350Z but I was considering one and need your input. Currently I own a plethora of vehicles starting with the oldest a 91 Celica All Trac, 94 Camry Wagon, 94 Supra TT, and 07 Avalon. I am thinking about moving into the Z because it’s new, rear wheel drive, it's aftermarket support is booming, and I don’t like leaving either my Supra or AT sitting somewhere. I am also considering retiring for the most part my Supra from the track, so the car would basically become a replacement daily driver and track day car. How does the Z compare to the TT or does it? Thanks for the input. What I am looking for is not asinine comments about favoritisms and such but rather straight forward strengths and weaknesses. IE bad point about the TT is weight, unwanted attention either good or bad, expensive replacement parts. Thanks.
Z is fast, but not fast enough to slap a supra TT if there is no mods. Handling is better in high speed, Z is a heavy car 2, on the other hand, is stable, no turbo lag..but no turbo... I love my Z, i think is fast enough. But not as fast as the 500 hp Supra/RX-7 I drove before...
pretty good take off that I slap a new saleen, and 333hp M3. But high speed accelation could be better, there are couple cars can just leave u behind...that's why i need 2 big a.s Turbo...

The 07 has basically a new motor (80% new). Has plenty of torque and its very quick up top. Not really sure what the fastest 1/4 times are on a stock 94 supra but the fastest we have here is 13.3 on stock tires and a slipping clutch. The Z does weigh around 33XX lbs. Its not the lightest car in the world but not the heaviest either. It handles great too even on the stock suspension.
My experience driving my 350z (Stock) and NA Supra (Suspension Mods):
The pros of the 350z:
1. A nice stiff chassis. As much Supraforums complains about the Z's weight, but the Z coupes definetly have an advantage over Targa Supras (which majority Supras are). I never had a chance to drive a hardtop Supra, therefore, I can't compare how stiff they really are.
2. The earlier Z's with the small tire sizes from factory really masks what the Z can really do on the track. Therefore, people get the false notion that the Z can't handle due to it's weight. A nice set of suspension and wider tires will make your track day much more enjoyable. If you are seriously spending time on the track, then bigger brakes might also be an investment (especially the earlier modle Z's brakes/rotors were rather small).
3. NA engines are nice to have on the track. Get a power steering cooler and oil cooler and your good to go for awhile. You don't have to worry about turbos generating extra amount of heat in the engine bay anymore.
The cons of the 350z:
1. The engine you get, that's as much power you will ever get. Live with it.
2. The Z maybe a competitve track car, but realistically, there are better ones out there.
3. Supra's are much easier to work on if your a DIY mechanic. However, parts aren't cheap either. I don't dare work on VQ35, the engine bay is rather packed in there for the Z. I'm glad that Nissan offer warranties.

They are both great cars but the Z is universal strip/track/daily, it just depends on how much money you are willing to dump into it, and it can be anything you want it to be.

How do you figure? There are plenty of guys pushing 300 to the wheel N/A

Granted

Smaller in comparison to a Supra? Have you ever even touched a Supra bay? The Z33 bay has quite a bit of space, especially compared to the Z32's which were impossible.

It's difficult to share our experiences with the 350Z, especially if you've never driven one. My driving experiences will differ from other Z drivers due to different year, models, modifications, etc. Go to a Nissan dealer & drive a used Z ('03-'05). Then drive a new '06. Finally, drive a new '07. By then, you can personally compare your own experiences with your other vehicles.

In response to Ruthless18x :
1. 300 RWHP can be achieved NA, but the OP wants to DD/Track his Z. He lives in the People's Republic of California where moding is virtually painful (especially in OC). In comparison, with a Supra TT the OP has, modding an NA Z would not hold much value in what he is trying to achieve. It's his money, if he want to chase after more HP, more power to him.
If you want to make a point that a Z can be modded for HP, sure I will agree to you some point, but only to a certain extent of how much a NA Z can really achieve.
2. No complaints here.
3. I have rebuilt and tore down completely an entire 2JZ-GE (NA Version) from an NA Supra and toyed around with a 2JZ-GTE (Turbo Version). I currently own a track dediciated NA MKIV Supra. I'm positive on how much space there is to work with a MKIV Supra (although, there is small things that does annoy me on how certain things are placed)
In comparison, with a TT Supra/NA Supra versus my 350z engine bay, the advantage goes to the Supra. In comparison for a Z33 and Z32 engine bay, I will agree with you.

Id have to disagree on the Supra being easier to work on then a 350Z, the 350Z is easier to work on IMO then the Supra for me, i had to work on 350Z's more then enough times but its quite simple compared to my personal Z. The 90-96 300ZX is still worse to work on then the both of those.

At the end of the day the 350z will be alot better driver for one simple reason: Its newer, and more reliable. Your supra is a 94. Pretty simple if you ask me.
