Default RPM Limiting

I know this has probably been talked about before, and if so could anyone give me the link to the thread.
What is the purpose of the RPM Limiter? What exactly does it do? I have mine set to about 4500RPM. I just do it to keep from driving to crazy and wasting gas. There's just something about that flashing red light that keeps me in check. Thanks for the info guys (and gals).

I just put mine up to like 6000 so i dont really ever see it, I think it gets kinda annoying... but if you actually look at it to distinguish when to shift then its a nice feature.

Mines at 7000 but i dont really find it useful unless your at 80+ cause the lower gears you really dont have enough time to react to the shift light you just have to watch the rpms.

The light flashes, but it limits nothing.

LOL. It is cool. If you want respectable milage on the street, set it to 4,000 RPM.

A shift light is also an asset for racing. If you want to shift at, say 6,500 RPM, then set it to 6,400 RPM.

The book says that it will flash 500 RPM before the set limit and then go steady at the limit. I find that at WOT if you shift when it starts to blink you will hit the limit perfect. RT=.2 sec

yea, it is small but works. Maybe not in the day time but if your car has tinted windows and it is dark out, like 10 pm or so that light can be bright when it starts flashing. Too bad i have mine set at 7000 so by the time i hit it i am already at red line.

I set mine at 6900 even though my rev limiter kicks in at 6700. That's because I'm used to reacting to the flashing light (too much Playstation Gran Turismo!). I can't tell the difference between a flashing red and a solid red. So at 6400, the light comes on, and I shift. Also, my dyno says it might be best to shift just before redline.
