Well I had to get rid of my Z a while back. I might be getting a z with in the next few days, so I'll see if we can invite some of the folks from work to the track. I never bad mouthed the civic and I don't really care about what car people drive. I like the z and that's that. I simply was asking a question from the z community and a little support. Anyways wish me luck with getting my z.

Cheers!

You people need to do your homework before you start bashing on other cars. Its a 350z not a Ferrari. We love our Z's just like they love their hondas. get over it!! And dont make the Z be an extension of your *****. Thats pathetic!!

+1 you guys drive 350zs not Ferraris. A B18c can be built up with forged internals, then throw on a 1200 dollar ebay turbo kit should be good for 350 +hp in a 2200 lb car. Not exactly the most reliable set up but still quite fast. Some of you guys sound about as informed as rednecks driving Pontiacs and Fords.

some of those civics done right are no joke...I had a turbocharged K20A..he was practically gutted...he left me on the 15 N bound like I was stopped. Those things are light as fukk, plus theyre not that expensive to mod compared to our cars.

+1 I had a K20 turbocharged EK dust me the other week on the 15. But yeah even those GSR powered civics are FAST AS ****!

They say that they can get a used engine ls for like $ 500 and turbo the car and rape a z with 5 grand.

My argument is that I'll get a used turbo kit boost to 420 or to 450 to the wheels.

Do you guys think that a civic with a 5 grand budget will rape a z with a 5 grand budget?

Sorry for the spelling and punctuation I typed this in a hurry with a bunch of guys talkingchit in the background

Thanks
The Honda guys are know for taking a motor and three grand to produce 750+ HP. The only problem my motor builder says is he sees them every six months with a new block to build stating.... Any way to build it so it won't blow up. He just laughs and explains there just isn't enough meat there.

So, your friends are right on .... but, at what cost down the road. I've barely beat out one of these Monster Ricers at the track with my 650HP 67 Camaro.
I wasn't too shocked after looking at the motor.

It was funny, I saw the motor prior to the race. All his buddy at the starting line. 12" Front slicks ... primer grey. Turbo 4 banger with fenderwell custom header. They were all laughing like I didn't know what was coming.

I gave them props and beat them ..... not by much. maybe a hood length.

I'm now in the process of installing the 800HP motor in mine.

Hey, racing tech has come a long way. Our Z's are nice cars but, for a drag car you can build much better for a lot less. IMO The Z makes for a great sports car / economy car. For a race car .... Pretty good ... but, there are better race cars out there.

EVO - STI's are low cost road racers.

Camaros / Mustangs are low cost drag racers...... I'd even venture to say EVO - STI - HONDA are competitive at the drags. Z's OK for a hobby drag or bracket racing ... but, the fastest.... they are not. Unless of course you spend 30K plus the price of the car imo. Money can solve a lot of problems... ;-)

I'll second that. While at the HONDA Dealer today I didn't see any performance parts for sale.

Everytime I go to NISSAN Dealer there is something new from NISMO out.

This is not to say NISSAN has a better aftermarket.... It doesn't HONDA does.

Is that a request ... Or, are you wondering why I did that? I did it to prove I'm not a poser.

If your interested .... Here's the new motor going in:

My point is there is trade off in racing. I just like my motor to stay together.
I wouldn't like to take a piston to the gut someday. That wouldn't be good

Some old picture before teardown:

Street Legal Trim:

Old Motor 650HP:

Interior - Will be upgraded with Computer Dia and DVD Engine Management Monitoring. New gauges etc... Can hardly wait to install them.

Gutted CRX's are usually the fastest in Auto-X around the track, they are like go karts. A hatch with a K20 motor + K24 Head will do 12.2 bone stock, so unfortunately with $5k, the civic would be faster Quarter Mile or around the track.

i agree that the Z is put to better use for Drift racing or road racing, if you want to spend the money to be the fastest drag racer, go with a camaro, uni-bodies like our Z's just cant take the stress, get something with a frame, then you will be in business.

i would have to say that there is no way to practically take a Z and a Civic on a 5k spending limit and make the civic faster than the Z

the Z has more Displacement, nuff said

You know it would be cool for someone to buy one of each and try this. NOS or whatever ... smog not an issue and track them. I'd bet you could build a Z motor to about 900HP..... but, then it would explode like that 750HP civic. Where's the fun in that? It's not like you can buy a Z motor for $300-500 and turn the trick. I think your looking at $1500 to start on a Z motor....

Don't know.... could it be done ???? Very interesting question.
