lastly, you must come to the realization that the 07 IS INDEED faster (stock vs stock) than previous models. i am sure when the new Z comes out, it will be faster than the 07. that is just how it is.

now go take a Midol.

i have videos.
one video i win by a couple cars. idk, just my first gear just hits alot harder than his auto 07. and its obviously that would happen.

then i have another video where i make a mistake in first gear, but we're still neck to neck, but i end up gaining maybe half a car more thanhim in the end.

hen has 6.5k miles on it.

im not bashing 07's, or obviously my friend. im just wondering why i beat him, god damn

The Z is GORGEOUS!! All Z's. 03-07. Just great lines, so sexy. And they're fast too!! For $30K, c'mon, you cant beat it. But I have to say that an 07 Z, stock for stock is faster than previous years. Its just evolution in engine technology. I wish I had an 07!! But Im happy with my 05. no complaints. Once this car is paid off next year I might look at new Z or I might wait for the next step in engine evolution with the 09. Either way I love my Z. Its just so fun.

the second race, i shouldve had him in the beginning like the first race, but i did something stupid, i popped the clutch in first gear thinking i would get more kick. but it felt like i had a traction control on (which i didnt), cuz it kinda cut my gas, then i went.

honestly by that video im not sure if he knows how to drive the auto in manual mode to well. I have an auto and i race my friends 06 all the time and it does not look like that he does not pull on me until we get up to about ill say the top of 3rd begining of 4th then he starts to pull me. Down low you should be neck and neck if both of you are driving correctly if you ask me.

Had the chance to buy a new 06 carbon on the showroom floor, MT6, etc. Cost me 10K more for the 07.
Bought the 07.
80% difference in the engine? That is a lot.
As for the hood bump, thought I wouldn't like it either but honestly, it is like a badge of distinction that says to the other owners that this car has a higher reving engine that is quicker stock.
I haven't really looked, but is there a lot of difference in looks from an 03-06?

It is interesting that people are saying ALL the earlier versions do a 5.8. They must be referring to the auto cabs. Most the times on the 03-04 were in the 5.3-5.4 range (I still have all the mags) and the FASTEST time was actually a TOURING at 5.3, and I think it was the one that did a 13.7. Also CAR mag in europe came over here and tested them and got a 5.3 to 62 MPH (which means it is actually slightly quicker than a 5.3). It wasn't til like 05-06 that the numbers really started to get to the higher 5s (iirc).

Racing is kind of interesting, I know that if both drivers are NOT 100% committed and ready to go at teh EXACT same time, it throughs the numbers right out.

all the later years, some say like, 5.6.

6 speed to 6 speed. My 60 ft jumped me a head then we came neck and neck till about mid track, thats when that thing pulled like a rabid gorilla, after we hit the mid point his car walked away, we finished the quarter mile with me having full view of his license plate.

07's have better powerband period. It was as close to stock vs stock as you could get as I had uninstalled all of my power adders. If you want to roll with the 07's you need mods, and you need to hook.
a question, do you notice a HUGE difference with your test pipes or cats?? I had test pipes and man they sucked ALL the torque out of this motor. when I put the cats back on, I was amazed at the pull I had back. I think test pipes make the car slower (unless you are boosted). thoughts?

I wonder why there seems to be almost a rivalry developing between the 07 owners and pre-07. What is up with that? Aren't we all driving a 350z? So what if someone buys a car 4 years later and it gets to the 1/4 in .3 of a sec faster? I like a quick car as much as the next guy, but big deal, it isn't as if everyone that has a pre-07 is driving around in a pinto.

I wonder if the Porsche guys started fighting when the 996 went from 296 to 320, or if they all still respected each others' cars?

The Z is an awesome car for the money, everyone just enjoy it.

I honestly think the test pipes give it more punch. Between my mods when I had the SSV which everyone said lost power the only difference I had was the test pipes, between some runs, I went back to stock cats for a while and ran again.

The last bit of the quarter mile just gassed, and I wasnt pulling the same times, my launching and up to mid 1/4 was close to identical up top, without the test pipes the times just weren't up to par. Test pipes may take some torque but give it back up top, and with the 04's we have enough torque to kick us off the line, we just end up running out of breathe up top. IMHO.

I noticed a MUCH larger bump with a crawford plenum up top than the test pipes, and th plenum didn't take away torque.

Right now I am running, JWT, Crawford Plenum, DC headers (with heatshields), and Nismo exhaust. I sold the test pipes, tried them for a long time with different mods and it just gave up way too much torque (which is why I bought the Z over the S2000).

I guess you would be talking about the hood? Ya, I am not really a fan of the hood either, but it doesn't ruin the car and if I could have that car with the 306hp or mine, i'd still take the 07 w/ the hood.

People do have to remember that a lot of people that bought the original 03-04 Z's were the hardcore Z fanatics that couldn't wait for it to come out (they have been on this board and contributing for years), so maybe they don't like it when guys jump on the bandwagon 4 plus years later and start talking smack about how their Z is faster than everyone elses. Maybe that is part of it??
