Default Enthusiast or Performance?? Which to order??

Help! I'm planning on ordering a SilverStone Enthusiast 6MT, but is the VDC and 18" wheels worth an extra $2000 on the Performance 6MT?

As for the tires, do the 17's wear better??

Thanks!

On the wheels, are you going to keep them? Resale on the 18" performance and 17" are both poor so consider the part of upgrading your performance 18" wheel to after market as a loss. Now, if you like the performance 18" wheels and want VDC, then it is a good upgrade to performance. I knew I was going to go after market on wheels so the performance model did not matter me (I live in southern Ca. VDC is not as big an issue + some guys post they dont like it anyways).

VDC doesn't matter to me. I'm fine with traction control and the limited slip of the enthusiast model. As for the wheels, I'm planning on keeping the stock 17" wheels. How does your silverstone look with 35% tint??

Thanks!

A lot of this stuff is personal opinion.

1. I went 35% tint because it looked nice but you could still see someone moving inside thus avoiding most likely possible ticket.

2. It looks like VDC is not an issue for you so it comes down to if you want to pay 2K for 18" perfomence stock wheels? If that is it, i strongly suggest you look on the wheel section and see if there isnt any volks or other 2K type 18" or 19" wheels you like. If so, consider getting getting the 17" stock, wear the tires out and when you are ready, spend 2K on wheels and replace the tires you would buy anyways with the bigger size to match the new wheels. That way, you get to pick the exact wheels you like (if volk, they will be lighter, perform better) and really not be paying anymore for the car because you saved 2K not buying a performance model. Just food for thought...Jeff

there is also TPM, for what thats worth, nice toy, but certainly shouldnt account for 2000$ or whatever if you dont want the wheels or VDC.

Id definitly say, if you want aftermarket rims, or like the 17" rims, enthusiast, hard to justify the money for just VDC and TPM.

I went with the Performance model, very happy with my choice - I think the extras are well worth the money. Good Luck !

Thanks for the help guys! I'm going to order the Enthusiast model since I don't really need TPM or VDC. The 17" wheels for right now will work, and I'll replace them in a few years with some wheels I actually pick! Thanks!

Sounds like a good decision. TPM is kind of a gimmick and many people who replace their wheels are not installing it in their new ones.

I wouldn't exactly call TPM a gimmick. It's only a gimmick to those who don't use it. I check it every day to make sure pressure is up when I leave for work, and I have found that it's a very accurate readout. Also, it would be good on a trip - just leave the front tires displayed (since the fronts are more critical) and you could tell if one started going down before you're stuck changing a tire on the I-state or at night.

tpm will be a mandatory feature or option, not sure which, on all I think domestic cars by 2004 or 2005.

yeah Im sketchy on the details, but its important enough that there is some sort of law going onto the books about it.

Good choice you won't be disapointed. Def order the Alum kick plates, they really look great on this car.

I was thinking of ordering a performance as well, but there are some persuasive arguments for getting an enthusiast. I'd prefer to go aftermarket on wheels, leather, and stereo, so it makes sense to save the money and get an enth.

However, there's a problem I didn't forsee. I went to Nissan's web site to check the configuration options and price, and it won't let me add a NAV system to the enthusiast. It appears only Performance and up can get a NAV system.

I don't understand that. Shouldn't adding a NAV system be the same for any model?

I think your right on the Nav.; Perf & up models. I think Nissan did it as a way to create more sales of the higher ticket price Zzzzs.

Again another topic which won't die.

If you want NAVI but don't want leather get the Performance with NAVI.

If you aren't going to upgrade your wheels the performance is fine.

VDC is questionable either way.

Here's what you should ask yourself.

What am I goign to do to the car?
Is it a weekend driver?
Is it a track car?

Ok from those questions: if you are going to heavily mod you car. Consider what you are going to mod. IF you turbo it, the turbo boost might reek some havoc on the VDC and TCS.
If you are goign to change your wheels. why spend the extra money on the performance.

If you want NAVI get a Performace.. Best bang for the buck. If you want leather then get a Touring.

In my case I was going to get a Track, but I don't care for those wheels in 18" and I prefer Red not Orange brakes. I didn't want leather or Nav either, and I especially didn't want Bose. So I got a Performance with cloth, side bags, aero, and sills. I'm going to upgrade to 19" wheels, Nimso suspension, Borla exhaust, and RED Stoptech Brakes (or I might just paint the stockers red). I figure this way I'll have exactly what I want. That's the beauty of how Nissan offers the pkgs. You can have it all or none, or somewhere inbetween!

If you don't care about the advanced traction control, save the $2k. In my case, I'm a safety nut, so I opted for the traction control and the side bags.

Enjoy the car!!!
