Why does everyone think the Z is heavy?

If you think Z is heavy, look at the VW R32 at 3409lbs, a car smaller than Z weighs much more.
I was rounding to the nearest hundred.

RX-8=3029lbs or3000
http://www.allfastcars.com/mazda-rx8.shtml

S2000=2835lbs or 2800
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/ro...000/index.html

350Z roadster=3576lbs or 3600
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...s_pricing.html

The R32 is an AWD 4 seater. I would expect it to weigh more than a RWD 2 seater.

And suggesting that I'm biased against the Z is just funny. I would respond to such accusation, if I actually thought you were serious...

you have to consider the Z also has a bigger engine than most the cars mentioned. the HR in the new Zs is huge.

At least our cars get to sport 10.5" wide wheels.

So instead of acting like a snobby d*ck, why don't you tell me what it weighs? I'm sharing info that I've only read here.

Thanks.

I don't think he's being a dick. You posted information that you read somewhere that the hood weighed 60 lbs. I call BS. So you're basically saying that the hood weighs more than your spare tire?

The RX-8 seats four and comes in at about 3000lbs.

Don't get me wrong the Z handles its weight very well, but it's got some weight to handle.
they're lighter but they have less power. so why are you comparing the z w/ an s2k and rx-8?

lol, i'm not sure on the exact weights but i'm pretty sure our hoods are lighter than scion tc hoods. and those hoods are half as small. I don't think that guy was being a dick. 60 lbs? come on man...

Because people who drive them might think the Z is heavy, compaired to their cars. ( "Why does everyone think the Z is heavy? " )

The rx-8 is in the same stock class (B stock)as the Z in the SCCA. The S2k is in a faster class (A stock) than the Z and also a 2-seat sports car. Both are in the Z's price range.

my ex-car was a miata...so compared to that my Z is heavy. but the Z is much larger than the mx-5... the s2k is about the same size as the mx-5, so to me Z to s2k comparison is silly...how many seats is a mute point to me.

For the record, unless you are talking about the hardtop spyder version, a 3000GT VR-4 weighs 3737 lbs (although there are slight variations between model years). The lightest of the family, Stealth Twin Turbo, weighs 3671 lbs.

You think Z owners have it bad.. most people think VR4s weigh 4000 lbs .

Well since people have never heard of not shooting the messenger, I'll go find out the weight of the hood myself later on today.

The Z only feels heavy to me because all of my other cars were 2500 lbs. and lighter. Otherwise it doesn't feel heavy at all compared to this LeSabre that I was driving for awhile (wasn't my car).

its heavy because its safe. you dont get a 5 star crash test rating on a super light car, you get death. lol. my z handles better than any car i have ever driven. because the balance on it is perfect. you can feel the car. and how it moves. plus you have more interior room in a z compared to an s2k or miata. and better leg room than an rx8 im sure. lets stop this thread its dumb. like comparing apples to oranges, THERE NOT THE SAME!

My impression is that the Z feels heavy because it doesn't "jump" with a light tap on the gas pedal. It's power comes gradually.

Majority of the owners here will not see track time with their Zs so why they're even concerned about the Z's weight is a mystery to me.
Ok, so you said your Z is eating RX7's (they were listed above) for lunch on autoX track!!?? Road course!!?? OK, sure... I own both Z and an FD RX7, the 7....BY FAR..... is 10x the track car. It was specifically designed to be a good track car. So if you are "eating them for breakfast" I would say those 7's deserve better drivers b/c that is just embarrassing...

Don't get me wrong here I absolutely LOVE my Z, and I would never drive my FD on a daily basis but lets not try and compare apples to oranges here. Fact is the Z at 3100-3200 lbs is a bit on the heavy side for a two seater hardtop. It just is... That doesn't mean it is not a good handling car, or that it isn't a decent track car with some suspension work...

Z's are pretty damn svelt compared to the big Japanese flagship sports cars of the mid to late nineties:

300ZX
GTR
3000GT
Supra
NSX

Given the similar stock hp numbers and a sub-30k price point for the Z nowadays, the only thing heavy is our wallets.
