Default 159mph in my Z

The other night at like 2:00am I was on a high way with no cars around and a long straight away. So, I decided to floor it. I got the car up to 159mph. I know this because I had my trip computer on MPH. The car was in 6th gear at this point and it was not at redline. When it got up to about 150 it was rather slow getting it up to 159 but, I got it there. I let up at 159 cause it was fast enough for me. I didn't want to push my luck anymore. The reason I am posting this is because I though the Z was governed at 155mph? Has anyone else done this? Or dose anyone know why I was able to get it to 159? By the way I don't make this a habit.

Why the heck are you guys stopping 1mph short of 160?

Thats sort of like flying to europe staying in the hotel room the whole time and coming straight back!

What would that matter?? If the speed limiter in the Z is @ 156mph then it's going to cut off @ and indicated 156. NOT the actual GPS measured 156 as the car has no way to measure this.

Furthermore, my old maxima's speedometer was nearly dead on at 146mph indicated I got 144.6mph on my GPS. Speedo errors are a german car thing...especially BMWs...

It is not a german car thing, that is a pretty niave thing to say. Just because your Maxima happened to be very close, doens't mean that all Nissan are close. My speedo is off 4.67% (calculated in a road rally). That is A LOT to be off. THe usual acceptance of speedo error is 2%.

how come everyone responds to this guy? (no offense)

but i posted almost a week ago that i hit 160mph and got zero reponses

you are right, the z struggles past 150, but i got there. i dont think it would have gone any faster as I had it floored for a good 15 seconds at 160.

i want to go faster

It could have something to do with the fact that his subject was "159mph in my Z" whereas your subject was "-just fyi". It could also be the fact that he asked a couple of questions: "The reason I am posting this is because I though the Z was governed at 155mph? Has anyone else done this? Or dose anyone know why I was able to get it to 159?" You didn't ask any questions; your thread was "just fyi".

Just a guess...........

Your thread is HERE.

Will, I have drivin in a car that had a governor on it and when you get to the speed it's governed at the car cuts power and you feel like you're on curse control. The Z did neither of these. I am wondering if the governor on this car is just BS!

How is it niave? It's a well known fact that german cars read 8-10% higher than actual when you get into the triple digits. This is done because of German law. It's actually ILLEGAL in Germany to have a car's speedo read lower than the actual speed the car is travelling, and since many people who travel on the autobahn regularly put larger wheels and tires on their cars, they want to compensate in advance for these larger diameter wheels and tires that turn less revs per mile.

I don't know how they calculated your speedo error at a road rally, but I've done the GPS test in my Z and so far the Z seems to be near DEAD on. Are you running aftermarket tires and wheels...possibly a different diameter than stock?
