the rsx-s has 201 hp, and the Z has 287...now how do you think its a drivers race? they are two completly different cars.

There's a reason the GT-R was introduced with a 6AT automatic transmission, gentlemen. Like someone else said above, these are not the conventional automatic transmissions you were used to hating on in the previous generations of sports cars. They are PERFORMANCE ORIENTED transmissions built for the purpose they are used for. I've got a friend with an '06 6MT and I've got an '06 5AT. Every time, I take him off the line, and he gains on me in the first few seconds of the run but inevitably we're an even match up until the point when we finally slow down. Also, when building an automatic Z, you have an -advantage- on the track because it's an immediate shift from gear to gear. No matter how good you manual guys think you are, you cannot shift as fast as an automatic - especially a built automatic.

I would go with what you want. Definatly drive both FIRST. I had a Prelude before, it didnt have a very good auto tranny, in fact, it sucked. I regreted it, big time. The 350z apparently doesnt have quite the same "slush box" effect as previous autos. Aside from HP #s, I think what I missed most having an auto vs. stick is not having engine brake, and more control over the motor. I like having the car "under power" when entering a corner instead of charging through it with an auto. Tiptronic helps, I had the tiptronic shifting in the Prelude, it was definatly next best to 5sp, it helped in the engine brake area, but letting off the gas still isnt the same in an auto CHARGE! I really notice the differance driving in the snow. What I dont miss now that I have a 6sp Z is traffic. They both have their benifits. What was good for me might not be what your after. IMO you sound like you want a 6sp, so get what you want and you'll never have to wonder, or regret it.

Can't we all just get along? Why is it that some noob strolls in and asks a noob question, and there's always a call to arms when it's MT vs AT. He's probably a troll who's laughing his arsh off at all of our expense. Children ... please behave yourselves.

Auto vs. manual
My 2004 nismo r tune was auto and was pretty quick.I drove it mostly in man. mode! The manual i own now allows u more precise control of power band than the auto would!I would go with the manual!

all i know is a auto is horrid on a road race course the first Z i drove was a auto around pocono and i didnt feel like driving it after one lap. Nothing exciting about a corner entry where you have to rely on your brakes 90%.lmao
