Question New Z... NooB question...

So I just hit 1250 in my Z and was curious if I have to take it to the dealership for the first maintnance check or if I can just go to my local lube shop for an oil change??? what exactly does the stealership look at for the 1200 mile service?

check with the dealership. Here in Aust most dealerships dont charge you for the first 1000k service. It's not a big service they just go over the car to make sure everything is ok,

If you choose not to take the car to the dealership, make sure you keep records and proof of all oil changes and other maintenance performed outside. If you have engine problems later, they are going to require proof that it's been maintained properly before warrentying it.

I scored mine for free they sent me a letter introducing the 'service team' and giving me the 1000km check over for free....but in typical nissan dealership fashion they "lost" the booking.... so I was there an hour longer than I needed to be, but they did give me the Murano to go drive around in

OP- definatly get your oil changed at 1200miles doesn't matter who does it. Nissan here told me the oil is fine without the need for a change for the first 10,000kms, I called BS on that one and did it myself. Your oil is contaminated from break-in.

yeah if not 1200 just get it changed at 3k at the max just because all the shavings etc. You will be surprised if you do it yourself how dirty your oil will be.

Do a search and you'll find the answers to ALL your questions. There are no "best" oil...what's best for me is not to others.
Change the oil myself (thanks to my350z) for showing how.
1st oil change, i used Mobile 1 oil and filter....then switched to Castrol Oil and the KN filter due to a sticky thread i read about Mobile 1 but choose which ever oil you feel is "best". GL

That is addressed in your warranty.

what exactly does the stealership look at for the 1200 mile service?

That is explained in your maintenance book.

Thanks for asking but the last thing we need is another “best motor oil” thread.

yer +1, in all honesty you'll find some peoples choice in oil is as serious as what name to give their children, it's a joke.... as long as you change it regularly every 5000kms/3000miles(?) it barely makes a bit of differance to engine life or performance.

so maybe "best" wasn't the right word to use since people tend to go on a rant about it. thanks for all info guys. i admit i was in for a little because i asked such a general question. I will say that I've driven quite a few cars and the Z is a great car to own.

I use a local shop for all routine service/oil changes (and keep the records) and take it to the Nissan shop for major service & to change tires.

Actually, the whole discussion is pointless because the first scheduled maintenance is 3750 miles, not 1200. 1200 is the breakin period.
