I sometimes think that if you push the button while pointing the remote at your chin sometimes makes your signal work better. (someone told me that in high school) and it seems to work.
You are correct, Clarkson did something like that in an episode of top gear while pointing the remote at his head. I think its sort of like when you have your hand near the antenna of a radio, (if you have a staticy connection it improves, then if you take your hand away its staticy again.) must have something to do with your body acting as some kind of extened antenna or something...
