automatic z
I love the zee but should it be driven manually? I've never really taught myself how to drive manual. I'm concerned about racers and other z owners out there that will laugh for owning an automatic. Should I learn manual ?

ALWAYS buy in manual. It's much more fun and really easy to do. I learned how back in the day when I used to sneak out my bedroom window and steal my dads car, coast down the hill, and pop the clutch so I didn't wake anyone up ... ahhh, the good ol' days. (I hope I never have a kid like me)

yes, you should learn to drive manual. but people have their preference in what they like to drive, some people dont like dealing with shifting and some dont mind it. i like driving stick myself, but i dont think you need to worry about other people laughing.

i have an auto Z, and NO ONE laughs at my car.
dont force yourself to do something because of those around you. I am the same way, i LOVE the Z because it is what it is. I also live between baltimore and DC, so commuting through traffic happens very often which is why the auto is less of a headache. Do what you wanna do bro, and in the end...you will still have a Z!! so be happy!

you should not let others affect your decision bro...its not imperative to drive a manual Z..but its fun to learn stick....ricers are just jealous to our cars..important is that you drive a Z!

I learned to drive a standard in 1975 (yikes! - yes, cars did have automatics back then). The last standard transmission car I drove regularly though, was a Taurus SHO. (I loved that thing - not very refined, but what an engine.)
My 350Z is an automatic and I wouldn't swap it for a MT. Drive what you want.

I love my auto Z. I'll just toss it in the MM mode if I want to control the revs my self. I've driven in both manual and auto Z's, there isn't a difference in speed, just get what you want. (You should try to learn to drive a manual though. It could come in handy some time, plus, it's pretty fun )

i would say to learn to drive stick, just because it seems to be a dying art lately with all these manumatics and paddle shifters. don't learn to make others happy, do it for the fun.
i have to say, it sure is nice to shift into 3rd, dump the clutch and break the rears loose a bit before they grab traction and shoot you forward. that is something manumatics cannot do.

I had a friend ask the same question. I informed him that you need to buy a car you can enjoy. I've let him drive my 6MT it took a while for him to get the hang of things. As we are driving around we talk about the problems of the 350Z though not many some have a problem with the clucht and 6MT.
He test drove the 5AT and like it and bought it and is happy with it.
Though there was a time when I wouldn't buy a sports car without it being MT we swicht cars sometimes and I enjoy 5AT in traffic jams or pulling out of steep parking garages (this what really made him buy the 5AT). And is manual mode going through the twisties or quarter, its pretty fun.
Now I believe the 6MT gives you more control of the car but does take some skill manuerving in some incidents.
Parked nose to nose or side by side they both look like 350Zs. Sometimes after driving the other we both don't want to swicht back, but there ain't nothing like being with the one you love/choose.
