I think you guys are misunderstanding what he said. Unless I'm just that sleepy and I understand it wrong: the mailman dropped off his mail, walked back to his truck, and flogged it, meanwhile the OP's car was entering the driveway, thus the accident. The mail truck was motionless when the OP began making his turn.

I think the policemen should have went Rodney King style on you. If there was a little girl in the road, the postman would have stopped because he would have seen her. In your case, you just appeared..a.k.a cut him off. Yes, he might have been multitasking; he looks up for a second and no one is there, he looks back down at his mail and you pull right in front of him. In his mind he knows he just checked in front of him and the road way was clear and vacant (no little girl), what he didn't know was you would be reckless and ignorant and pull right in front of him while he was doing his job. I mean who does that? Poor post man probably thought he would be in some trouble because he bumped an 18 yr kid that completely disrespects his obligations. Shame on you.

ME (AS A TEENAGER): Mom and Dad, I have a proposal for you. I want a $24k sports car but I'll only put up $8k while you pay $16k and I get to drive it 100% of the time and at least once into a mailman. What do you say?

MY FOLKS: *Both laugh raucously and then Dad reaches for the phone to call the nearest adoption agency*

Hahaha... this is classic!

I would've known much better to even dream of a proposition like that to my parents.

Usually the mailman stays in the jeep when he is putting mail in boxes. It may have been motionless when he went pulled out in front of him however.

Personally I would never pull out in front of a mailman stopped or not because you know they are stopping and starting every house. Plus you don't **** off the mailman. You know where the term "postal" comes from right?

All that being said, In my experience with wrecks (and I have had my fair share) pretty much what the cop puts down on the report is how it plays out with insurance.

Now to this being a spoiled 18 year old situation, well I give him some props for at least saving some money himself but honestly at 18 its time to pay for you own transportation.

8k will buy a decent get around town kind of car.

Come on now guys let's back off him, I mean he did after all pay for 1/3rd of it right? So let's be fair and cut down the ragging to only cover the 2/3rd that he didn't pay.....sounds fair to me?

+1 Sucks man, sorry to hear it. In retrospect it would've been a LOT quicker (and less trouble) to stay behind the mailman for a few seconds till he was past your driveway than trying to pass him on a residential street and turn in front of him.

Should he have proceeded without LOOKING? No, but I'm not hearing his side of the story either. I know when I'm driving down a typical residential street I don't expect to be overtaken and have a car turn in front of me from the same direction I'm travelling, either. *shrugs*

Good luck with the repairs. Some of life's lessons are hard pills to swallow. Be glad no one was injured and be happy that you probably won't make this mistake again.

It would figure you didn't pay for the car 100%. God for bid kids now adays actually having to pay for the things they want, that would be ludacris.

Why is everyone bashing the OP? Dude gets his car hit, then gets flamed for trying to vent about it because he's young? No eye witnesses from the forums= speculation due to age discrimination. Why don't we just take it back to the old days and talk about each others mom's and call it a day?

Cause there is absolutely no reason to bring age into the situation at all and he only adds to his immaturity by saying that hes going to shove the newspaper back down his throat.

As a young Z owner I hate to see this kind of stuff mainly because it only leads to more people bashing young drivers.

Sounds to me like the mailman had probably been working for hours and some kid cut in front of him as he started to move.

Agreed.

So I'm guessing you go to Clemson? Awesome school, I was there for the VT game. Think we have your number in football, but you guys have ours in basketball.

who cares if his parents payed for 2/3 of the car he drives. I think that the people who bash on others about this are either jelous or mad that they didnt pay full price on the same car.
Everyone has different parents who think and/or act differently. I bet most of the people here bashing on the OP would jump at the opportunity for their parents to buy them a car or help pay for it (knowing the parent can afford it).
As for the accident, this could have happened to anyone and I believe that the mailman is more at fault here due to his attention going towards the mail(ive seen this many times). The newspaper being shoved down his throat is just a comment showing how angry he was that someone his his car. Im sure many of you on this board care about your cars a lot and would have evil thoughts about what to do(doesnt mean you'll act upon them). The OP did not do it, all he said was that the thought was running through his head but he didnt do it.
Also, just because someone on the board starts flaming the OP it doesnt mean he's your leader and you need to hang on to his sack and follow him.
This is a car forum, not a who bought you your car forum. Personally, im sick of seeing this and hope it stops because most of you here are not too far from 20 years old yourselves.

OP is lucky to be in a good situation where he could get the car and only pay 1/3 and drive this kind of car at a young age.

i don't really know who's at fault...but i guess you're stuck with what the police report says

Neither does yours but no one is straight bashing the person just their opinions.

Keep the trash talking towards what the other person is saying and not at the other person. Thats what distinguishes an intelligent human being from a complete moron.

I agree with some of his statement but still feel that the paper down the throat AKA physical harm is childish.
