Hmm, just to sum things up. I owned and drove my car through the last winter here in the Northeast. Let me just say that the Z on stock rubber CANNOT be driven in snow. In the cold, it's okay, assuming you don't do anything aggressive. In a light dusting, park it and walk. If there's actually snow on the ground, just don't do it. It's not a matter of having to drive slow, or taking it easy, it's really that the Z is essentially uncontrollable in snow. The combination of RWD and performance tires just does the car in.

As was mentioned previously, there were many "I wiped out and crashed my Z" threads last winter. I hope we don't see any more of them.

If you absolutely must drive you Z in the snow, invest in a set of winter tires, or better yet, buy a beater for a grand or two. Either way, you'll be glad.

Default z in winter

You go.... I have a hard time taking Baby out in the snow and chemicals!

I drive a Jeep other times. Just put it in 4x4 and go! I would never take baby out on these roads in chemicals. If they weren't there ,17" would work for me. I have seen what the chemicals do. S--T! No Thanks!

Come on, the Z drives quite well in the winter. No problem at all with winter tires. I bet you 4 out of 5 Z here will be driven in the winter time.

Most everyone around here drives its car all year long. We see all kinds of expensive cars on the road. Just not too many ragtops with tops down, that's all.

If you don't drive your nice car in the winter in Canada, you may only get to drive the car very in-frequently.

The kicker in the post above is "WITH WINTER TIRES." Again, mainly because I can't stand the thought of more wiped out Z's, snow and stock tires don't mix. Get winter tires if you have to drive in the snow.

For more questions, ask Zboy. Why didn't you come to the meet?

Wow... I didn't expect this much input. Thanks a lot guyz.

Tomorrow I'm gonna go to the Nissan dealership, whoop up some salesmen, and take home a Silverstone Enthusiast!

I guess I'll just go ahead and grab some winter tires come winter time. Does anybody have a recommendation for best value? The Pirelli Winters and the Blizzaks were mentioned - are there any more?

Since many of you said you'd never drive your Z in such horrible weather, I'm not really expecting much more input - but as usual, any help is appreciated. My350z.com rulez!

get a winter bomber buddy. i have a 68 dart that is like a tank in the snow. in the winter u never know if its the z that has trouble in the weather or a freakin escort careening your way! is it worth it? plus when u pull the z out after 4-5 monthes of driving the dart it is such a great reward to drive the z again! what a feeling! great luck!

Well sorry if I offended anyone with my "it's just a car" statement. I love the Z so much I drive it in the snow!! I get it washed 4 times a week. So whatever to the haters of us winter drivers. As for snows there are only a few winter tires available in 17 and 18 in tires. I would get either the blizzaks or the pirellis but line them up before the rush. I had a ***** of a time locating my tires 245/50/17 all around. Good luck and I will see yah sliding around like me this winter

Just messin’ with you, Jspec350z! No offense taken. I’m not a "winter driver hater"!

Seriously, I am fortunate that I am able to keep my Z in a climate-controlled garage and I have other vehicles that I am able to drive in bad weather. I consider myself blessed. Obviously, you have to do what you have to do.

But it seems to me for the price of investing in snow tires, wheels, mounting cost, etc. that I’ll use that money for a ‘beater’.

I agree with rouxeny, I hope we don't have any "I wiped out and crashed my Z" threads this winter.

I don't like these kind of pictures.

Oh my god I would cry if that happened to my Z. The Z with snow tires is actually pretty good in the snow. I had zero problems last year except when I put the stock tires on april 4 and it snowed 11 inches on april 12. I parked the Z for 4 days!! that really sucked.

Drove my Z in 8 inches of snow here in denver during the winter on average (usually snowed about once a week). Only time I didnt drive my Z was during the blizzard where I had 8 foot snow drifts not letting me get out my front door, much less to the car! The Z is pretty heavy and it sticks pretty good in the snow on yes... stock tires. I had no problems driving around, just don't be stupid and give it gas to get it going. This is rear wheel drive car w/ almost 300 hp stock. You can definately drive the Z in the snow just fine, just a matter if you know how or not. Now I did have a lot of run-ins with black ice, but just going slow and setting the car up for a straight line before hitting was all one could do. I just would pay attention to how the car "felt" and you can judge when your on ice or got some fractional grip. I'm thinking about getting a beater vehicle for the winter as I would rather just keep my Z totally out of harms way. But it's my daily driver so I dont have too much of a choice. For those out there that gotta drive in snow w/ the z, just drive safely and you'll be fine.

I have nearly 20 years experience with "beaters" for winter driving, and I'm fed up with them. It would be okay, I guess, if winter only lasted a couple of hours, but here (West of Boston, i.e., 10 minutes from a ski area) winter can last six months .... I can't believe how much time I've wasted in frigging boring cars, standing in the garage and looking at one great car or another and then going out to drive some #$%^box.

Like the man said, "It's just a car." It's going to get old, break, rust ... and like most good things: "use it or lose it."

Beaters are expensive, too. The car doesn't cost much. The insurance costs about $500 here, the garage space certainly costs something, and it too takes tires and oil and gas and all .... and since it's a beater it breaks and takes money or time and frozen fingers to fix.

So I'll spend $135 ea. for Fox5 rims, and $200 each for LM22 tires and for that $1400 dollars I'll enjoy my car while I have it.

I looked at STis, btw. It's okay if you like being stalked by the cops. Kind of cheap looking inside, moreso than Nissan even. So I passed on that idea.

I'd say people are plain wrong to just park a car that doesn't have collectible value, but I've done it too often myself. We'll see.... J
