I was going to blame it on the stock tires - but then I realized your rpm was 6000+. So MAYBE better tires would have helped....maybe not...

 

practice in a parking lot or take some driving lessons.

 

The randomness of the people on this forum to flame or not to flame astonishes me at times.

 

Maybe it is because I grew up driving large RWD V8 sedans but allowing the rear end to whip out unexpectedly is ridiculous. Maybe it is because most kids today learn to drive on FWD cars?

Just be careful with the gas pedal and you won't have a problem. The suggestion to auto-x your car is an excellent one. You will learn the handling limits of the car in a safe and fun environment. The best option is to go to the autocross events when it rains. The whimps won't show up and you'll get more runs in and benefit from the advice and example of the good drivers.

While I agree that the Z is pretty stable at reasonable speeds, there was one time years ago I was driving my FWD car after all the ice had melted(so I thought). Coming off a jughandle going about 30mph and at a very very shallow turn angle I hit black ice and spun my (fwd) car at least one full 360. Glad I didnt hit the telephone pole or oncoming traffic. Scared the **** out of me. I think I drove home at about 5mph after that.

 

Don't romp on it leaving the wash rack either. It'll fool 'ya. Let the tires dry first...

I was thinking of taking some kind of auto course, looks like everyone is recommending auto-x.

And of course I'm inexperienced with the car, I just got it and am experimenting with it. I'm just glad I decided to experiment in a wide open road at 12 am with no cars there. I learned my lesson, the music was a spur of the moment thing. I had told myself to never drive fast with music on, as I hate distractions while I'm driving, and love listening to the sound of the engine, and of course I need to listen to it for my shifts and whatnot. I agree I made a stupid mistake, but hey, people make mistakes, I'm just glad I didn't have any consequences. I learned my lesson

Anyway, thanks for the replies. I'll be sure to look into most of the things that everyone said.

Oh and I've never driven fast in rain, nor do I plan on doing so. I like to be in control and wet tires sound like the best way to lose control
