GTR is nice but maybe we need a true High Performance sports car...

The GTR is not just a Sports Car the Z33 is a Sports car, the GTR is a SUPER CAR like the LAMBO or Porsche 911. Theres already a lighter stock boosted 2 seat GTR available for $90-$100k. Wake up and smell the coffee.

I almost didn't open this topic but thought why not, maybe there's more to it than the title.
Why should it matter how many doors a car has, or what platform it's based on when talking about sports cars. You can argue all day long that it's not as light as a Lotus Exige, or have a roaster configuration. The car ran a 7.38" at Nurburgring what more do you want from the car. That course is designed to pick apart the tuning and setup of any car…. Spending too much time looking at the sheet metal of the car and the number of people it can transport.
Now given the car doesn't have the sex appeal of a high end Italian made car or even the wide low stance of an NSX, why try to give such a specific meaning to the title of sports car? In which case, build a 350Z and call that you Nissan "sports" car.

Fellow Z-Drivers, even though I will be bent over and kicked in the **** a few times for saying this; the chap who posted and started this thread may sound like he's smoking the joint but I agree with him. The GT-R is an amazing machine, probably the best there is for the next 3 years until high market automakers such as Lambo and Porsche makes a Diablo 3x300Z5 or 911x54 or some-thing to that nature. With that said though, the GT-R is a G-35 coupe with madness boost and computer control.. I have had the chance to sit in one in CA as the driver took me around the block and in no way would I trade my Z for the GT-R. When you get in the inside of a Z, you know that it's a sports car. When you get in the inside of a GT-R, it feels like the USS Voyager from Star Trek. Just that it's a lot more sexy than Captain Janeway. Remember when the 300ZX came out? It dominated everything, Chevy was shivering its ***** out because it made the corvette look like a camery. I think Nissan would have been better off putting all the tech they had in the GT-R and upgrading the interrior to better quality and put it into the 350z rename it and call it the new SpecV 350z instead of the ugly Chrysler Crossfire look-a-like of the 370z coming out.

I don't remember what's been posted in this topic on the other model GT-R's but I believe they're going to call it the GT-R V-Spec or Spec V, won't be out untill 2010. What I do remember reading for sure is it will boost hp to 520bhp, equip with ceramic brakes, and be 200 lbs lighter. I don't know where anyone got whether or not it will be RWD.
I see where the OP is going. He basically wants a GT-R in a sports coupe or supercar body. Thats really all this is and of course keep the launch control. If the GT-R looked like a Saleen S7 and weighed a little less, it would be perfect.
I thought the Spec V was to have the same motor, just be a lot lighter, hopefully more than 200 pounds lighter, cause it IS a pretty heavy car, and feels like it when you thrash it around a bit. Yes, I have driven one, there are presently three in our club. And the present GT-R already has 520 HP at the crank - it is putting down 420 to the wheels and a 20% loss is about right for AWD cars. Nissan is understating the HP in its advertising. I think the Spec V is going to go for way above $100g though - they already raised the price of the '09 for newer orders.

I'm sure that most of you all are nissan experts, but I would like to see the 5.6 engine from the Titan placed in a car small like the Z with a set of twin turbos. It might sound crazy but most of the mega-priced-supercars have large engines.
V6 with 3.8 liters compared to V8s and V12s with 7+liters
Since the GTR has the grip, add some more power to push the grip to the limit.

The OP has opened up a topic that has taken different directions. In the category of "sports cars," our successor, the 370z seems to be a perfect fit, less weight/more hp.....anything more to it pushes it up into the "super cars" category, which the GTR is in.

Actually the GT-R isn't a sports car at all. It's a Grand Touring car. Hence the GT in it's name! Sports cars are classicly rear wheel drive only and don't have electronic gimicks like traction control, ABS, yaw sensors.

I hope the 370Z will be nice upgrade but every car gets bigger with every facelift. Look at what Nissan did with the G37, sure it makes more power but man it put some weight on.
Anyways, I was just rambling off factory numbers on bhp specs. Everyone has the current GT-R spec'd at 480hp. If PurfZ's car is making that much to the wheels, that's great, I won't be ignorant and say it's not. But I can't find a listing of the GT-R where the car claims 520hp, even on Nissan's web site, all list 480hp. Did some more searching, everything is hear say on the next model to come out.

I don't own one, I said had driven one. And the 420 WHP came from Car & Driver, who were pretty sure the HP was understated by Nissan when they did several comparisons against various cars with 3 different GT-R's; they finally had time to put it on the dyno and it showed 420 to the wheels. And of course there is a lot of hearsay - that's what drives the Internet, lol.

So assuming the car is rated at 480bhp and pull 420whp, 12.5% power loss is pretty good. Then again, you could be right it could be pulling more. You'd think a car as fine tuned as it is and with as many things controlling the tune, it'll vary quite a bit by region and atmospheric conditions.
