Should i be concerned?
I think this concern about the 06's is overblown. I have an 06 manual and zero issues so far. I spoken with service reps at 2 dealerships in my area and between both of them they have only replaced one 06 engine. That's the bad thing about an internet forum. All you hear is the negative reports, although they may only be a small fraction of all the satisfied owners. Personally, i would have no problem buying another 06.

x2. I'd take an 06 over an 03-05 any day. Mine never burned bad anyway, and the engine replacement procedure is simple if it does burn under warranty. Whats better than a used car with a factory installed brand new engine?
I guess I have gotten lucky, I got an 06 about a year ago, its got 45k miles now and no problems with oil, tires or anything else. that said if I could afford it I would go with an 07 just for the slight bit of power but I would not go back to an 02-05 if I did not have to but thats just my taste.
I agree, the issue with rev-up oil consumption is blown waaaayyy out of proportion. My 6-speed 06 had no reliability issues whatsoever, oil consumption or otherwise. IMO its also the best looking year for the 350z. But definitely get an 07 if you can afford it.
