Default Inventory Low at Dealers

I'm pretty darn frustrated as I'm ready to buy ASAP, and all the dealers I've called in the Sacramento, CA area have extremely low inventory. They're clearly in a position to demand MSRP or better.

I even tried Autoland and the broker quoted me an MSRP vehical meeting my requirements that I could have shipped from Southern CA for $300 =(

Btw I'm looking for a 2004 Touring Coupe in CS (I'd consider SB or SS) with Alum Kick Plates and Mats. Thats it. I won't pay 2k for Navigation and don't want side air bags. I've not made up my mind on getting Chrome Wheels.

I'd like to get one for up to $1500 over invoice (which is an even split between Invoice and MSRP), but I not optimistic getting one for this price with inventories so low.

Suggestions?

why do you feel need to buy in-state? call dealers in Oregon, AZ, NV and get a signed quote. Fly over there and drive back while smoothly breakin in your new car.

just remember to have a clear-bra install guy to come by before you drive home.

I can almost bet that you can find what you are looking for in the Bay Area. A plethora of dealers out here, try 'em and keep us posted.

Darvain, try Northbay Nissan in Petaluma. If you're serious about buying a Z, I highly suggest going there. It may be a bit of a drive, but it is well WORTH it!

If you go to Petaluma, ask for Randy and tell him John sent you. He's a really cool salesman, no pressure at all. I went in there, told him what I was looking for and how much I wanted to pay. I expected him to try and negotiate the price with me, but he simply said "ok." Got my car a little over a month ago. Went in there on a Saturday, spent about 45 mins there, and by Tuesday I had my car! I got my car for $1k under MSRP, but I'm sure you can do better than that now.

I have an Enthusiast and that $1k under MSRP is about 50/50 between invoice and msrp. I'm fairly certain you can snag a touring for less than $1500 over invoice.

Hope this helps.

I got my SB Touring Z from Chase Ford/Nissan in Davis. My salesman actually had to trade for the exact car I wanted with another dealer in Stockton. At first we agreed at exactly msrp for a SB touring with all options except DVD NAV. But a black touring with DVD nav was the only one they had available at the time so he gave it to me for $1000 off. So technically I got my Z for $1000 under msrp. But since then the dealership has undergone an ownership change the whole sales staff overturned.

Heh, I just realized my story doesn't help you at all. In my case I was able to develop a good relationship with my salesman to the point where he was willing to look up and down California searching other dealerships' inventories for the exact car I was looking for. When he found it, he was able to trade and get the car and turn around and sell it to me. It worked out pretty good. The only drawback was since he found it in Stockton he himself drove to stockton, picked up my z and drove it all the way back to Davis. So my brand new Z had 300 miles on it. Oh well. It was still in perfect condition.
